As someone who likes the Wii U games, this video is fascinating to the point where it asks the real questions Nintendo asks, asked or hasn’t asked itself between 2010 and 2016.
I still haven’t finished the video, but I will. It’s pretty funny and very informative.

I loved the Wii U so much and really played it a ton, but my God was that tablet controller unwieldy. Still not sure how they thought people would go for that, I certainly never did.

I just don’t understand why Nintendo thought I wanted a bad tablet.
Phones were using glass screens at this point, by the way, if you were younger. If you weren’t a teenager or younger, you had at least used someone’s fancy iPad at this point. The Wii U felt like a blown up DS that barely justified having an HDMI console. Rumors of ps4s and Xbox 720s were everywhere and Nintendo was finally outputting 720p with a cheap tablet controller. The vibe was awful for it.
And watching Scott’s video, I feel like people who appreciate MiiVerse forget when Nintendo did shit like Camp Hyrule every year and ran their own gaming forum. I loved NSider (the forum) and they randomly shut it down because of “the success of the Wii” and the way they treated their traditional base that entire generation will forever leave a bitter taste in one’s mouth. They didn’t want to be Nintendo, the cool gaming company, they wanted to be Disney where everyone watches the same family friendly thing a million times over.
It just wasn’t a fun time to be a Nintendo fan. Especially a Zelda or animal crossing one. Wind Waker HD is as of now the best version of the game for several reasons, but the MiiVerse and pointless gamepad integration really sucked. You actually can’t get a minimap without a 3 hour battery life gamepad in your lap, even with a pro controller.
