It is a *very* well made controller. Membrane buttons, membrane triggers, high quality joysticks. It’s the easiest controller that I’ve disassembled since GameCube. Seven exterior screws, two interior screws. If anything breaks on it, repairing it will be an easy task.

In settings, the buttons and joysticks are very responsive. The D-Pad feels really good. I noticed no latency issues in the bit of gameplay that I did. Now, I don’t actually like the layout of this controller. It is not for me. But, if you like the layout, I highly encourage you to grab it. It’s twenty USD right now from Retro Fighters. It’s gone after this, so if you like it, get it now.

Unscrew the seven exterior, and the back comes completely off. There’s nothing to futz with like with so many other controllers.

Inside, you’ll find two screws (located near the tip of the screwdriver. Get those out, dislodge the rumble motors, and the board comes right out.

Flip the board over, and you find some of the nicest membranes that I’ve ever seen in a third party controller, if not *the* nicest.

I actively tried to get the joystick modules to stick, and they just kept springing back to centre. After taking apart a few third party controllers and having nearly all of their joysticks stick, it’s nice to see a company going with quality modules.

It’s thirty USD on Amazon. Shipping isn’t included, so it ends up being only a little bit cheaper at the twenty dollar price compared to thirty with Prime, or add another item in and get free shipping even without Prime.

Again, this controller is out of production after this last run, so get it while you can if you want it new.
Hopefully all of Retro Fighters’ controllers are this well made, and this easy to disassemble. Specifically I hope that all of their GameCube and GameCube-style controllers use the same components that this one uses. The only thing that I’d do differently is using magnet sensing (Hall) triggers. They feel a lot like GameCube’s analog triggers. All GameCube imitations should use magnet triggers.
