Did not play any Pokemon between Black/White 2 and Sword/Shield. I did not feel the need to return after that uninspired game and have yet to feel a reason. I love Pokemon but they need new developers.

Modern Pokemon looks like an off-brand ripoff of itself. Anytime I wonder if Nintendo is embarrassed to have something like this associated with their brand, I have to remind myself these games somehow sell twenty million copies every time.

So when this first came out there was a wave of hype I could ride to ignore all the terrible things about the game. But I’ve beaten it and put it away for some time now. And looking at that footage is just…yuck. I cannot for the life of me imagine playing this DLC. Just not gonna happen. And I’ll never replay the game, and frankly if there’s another one that looks like this I’ll be skipping that one too. They’ve really lost me on this series.
It’s not even entirely about the graphics being bad, although the graphics really are bad. It’s just everything about it, even the way the characters move. Watching that ride Pokémon jump over whatever that colorful thing is. I’m just sitting here like, this is the best they could do? Really? I don’t say this lightly but they should genuinely be ashamed of themselves for being the biggest franchise in the world but putting out such low quality content. It’s almost embarrassing to even look at.

I have played pokemon since red and blue on gameboy color. Scarlet was the first pokemon game I couldnt stand to finish. USUM was a close first, but yeah, maybe I am getting too old for them.

Not gonna buy it because ScarVio blew chunks, but I do like the mons they’re bringing back for this. Metagross, Snorlax, Alcremie- that’s 3 of my all time favorites already.
I’ve been replaying the 6th generation games (XY/ORAS) lately and man, we did NOT appreciate them enough when they were the current gens. Even though not many new mons were introduced, it was by far the biggest and most polished a Pokémon gen has ever felt. Gen 7 isn’t bad either, maybe a little too linear but still really solid with a ton of interesting new mons and mechanics.
That said, both of those experiences throw into sharp relief what a belly-flop Gen 9 has been so far. I was much less hard on Sword and Shield than a lot of people were- even with Dexit and a horrifically boring story, the games *functioned* and battling/raiding was fun, plus the new mons were awesome. I can’t ever see myself returning to ScarVio, though. The world is enormous, yes, but it just feels like so much piss in the wind with a lackluster group of newcomers, vestigial and undercooked mechanics, and atrocious performance problems in all aspects of the game. It’s a shame, because I liked the story much better than the Galar games, but a good story is hard to tell when everything else is so half-assed.
I love Pokémon and it’s world, I have since I was a little kid and I always will. But I’m done with the new games until they can prove to me they care as much about the property as I do. I’ll replay old titles and do stuff like Showdown to get my fix when I need it.
