I have no idea i left for like a week and this happened, i am beyond confusion
Google Reddit protests. Basically the company has been acting terribly and so communities are switching to “NSFW” because those subreddits become ineligible for ad revenue. No idea about John Oliver.

Reddit is making people upset with some changes. Lots of subreddits protested a while ago with a black out. I guess this sub is continuing its protest. No idea why it’s doing so with Pikachu and John Oliver, but the NSFW is to keep Reddit from monetizing this sub.

I assume marking everything NSFW is a trend that happened as part of the whole reddit protest thing that was turned into a community meme similar to the trend of censoring characters eyes so that they stay anonymous. The John Oliver meme started on another subreddit and now a lot of subs are following suit.

I woke up in sleep Paralysis to Mega Evolved John Oliver this morning. I shidded and wizzed my trousers.
Man, hearing about how reddit is forcing these protesting subs back open, it really makes me consider 1) how much of a massive prick u/spez is, and 2) whether Reddit is even worth my time if it’s run by a moron like that. People are protesting for a reason, and he just continues being a dickhead and clearly only caring about income :’)

The John Oliver thing is a form of protest called malicious compliance. It targets reddits pockets by making these subs less attractive to advertisers.
