Im gutted they are keeping the awful timer mechanics, but ill still give it a go. Hopefully they overhaul the game and get rid of the timer for pikmin 5

I’ll try it! I’ve never played Pikmin but everyone seems to be hyped for it so I must be missing out

Looking forward to playing it. I played Pikmin 3 because I got it for free back in the 3DS/Wii U era with my rewards points and loved it. Recently got the Switch version of 1/2 and absolutely loved the first one, beat it in 2 days. The 2nd however was not for me. I feel like I’m constantly being interrupted with slow dialogue boxes and every time I see an underground area I cry a little.

I’ve read where people didn’t like the time mechanics of the 1st game but I completed the first game in 21 days on my first ever play through and explored every nook of each level.

I absolutely love Pikmin! My only complaint of 3 was that it felt so short. There wasn’t too much game left after getting all the Pikmin types but hey quality over quantity I suppose

  5. I’ve never played Pikmin, but it seems like my kind of game! It’s such a committed fan-base, so I’m hoping I’m not let down!

I hope this game isn’t a dungeon crawler type thing like Pikmin 2, as much I love white and purple Pikmin I really didn’t enjoy that game. Pikmin 1 and 3 goated

  7. Is there like a timer in this game or you can just chill and explore ? I didn’t like the timer in the 1st game

Is it me, or are demos making a comeback? Hadn’t played a demo in years, and then this month alone I’ve played demos for Lies of P, FF, and soon Pikmin.

I appreciate them providing demos. Didn’t take long for me to realize its not my cup of tea.

The house interior in the first bit makes me wish for a new Chibi Robo.

The way they are implementing co-op in the story mode is disappointing.

  12. They really should’ve kept bingo battle as an option.

Just got done with the demo! It’s a great demo so far and it leaves me excited for its release! But did anyone else think that having the auto lock on for the entire game was annoying? It’s not a vast dealbreaker but it was annoying that I couldn’t just guide the curser how I wanted. Instead, it keeps forcing me to lock on to everything around me. What do you all think?

Love it so far! Graphics are so pretty and I love Oatchi to bits already (the goodest boy). Holds your hand a bit at the beginning if you’ve never played a Pikmin game before, but also introduces new mechanics and features for returning players. So glad this demo wasn’t short. I’m already itching to play the full game now!

EDIT: wanted to add now that I’ve finished the demo that I LOVE the quality of live changes. Things like having notifications for when an action is complete and being able to move the base are really nice additions

Its my first time playing a Pikmin game and I’m really enjoying it so far. Oatchi and the Pikmin are so adorable 🥰

  16. Very fun demo for the most part. I appreciate that the world – or the first area, at least – feels a lot more open compared to Pikmin 3, where the world felt very designed and didn’t feel as though you could do a lot of exploring until you’d passed certain milestones. That’s true of this demo too but the first area having a more natural, open design disguises it better. The balance between overworld and caves also looks very good, far better than Pikmin 2 where the caves dominated most of the game. Oatchi is a natural fit for the series and very charming (still annoys me that he doesn’t have a nose, though – insert ‘how does he smell’ joke here), the fact you unlock Pikmin types very quickly is a nice change (and suggests future areas will also be quite open if you go in with most of the game’s tools already unlocked) and the lower camera angle works quite well. I also didn’t mind the controls at all, which seem to be a sticking point for some, though there should be an option to turn the lock-on to manual.

Downsides? There’s way too many cutscenes and talking. They’re mostly skippable, which certainly helps, but it really disrupted the flow of the early part of the game being constantly interrupted. Otherwise, a demo-specific issue is that the sparklium limit means the demo punishes you for being efficient (so much for dandori): I collected well over the limit in 2 days in the first area, but watched a GameXplain video where Andre collected treasure at a much slower rate but was therefore able to open up and explore much more of the first area, because his slow treasure collection meant he had a whole other day before reaching the 1500 sparklium limit. It would have been better had the game either had a set day limit – rewarding efficiency – or just made the first area the demo without any score or time restrictions.

Those are pretty small issues, though, and the latter won’t even apply to the main game. It’s a shame Bingo Battle won’t be in the game (by far my favourite mode from Pikmin 3) and the fact you’re only allowed to take out three Pikmin types at a time sounds frustrating (I didn’t get to a fourth type in the demo, so it hasn’t affected me yet), but in terms of gameplay and level design, it’s looking very good so far. Am planning to replay the demo with minimal treasure collection in order to explore as much as I can.

At least now we know it runs well. But holy shit, every 3 steps there’s a new cutscene or a stop to let a character explain something. If it’s gonna be like this at least give us a text skip button

Never knew Nintendo had a good real time strategy game under their belt!! Great demo

  19. SannyIsKing

This is awesome! It’s dialogue heavy at first but they take off the training wheels and let you start roaming areas freely pretty quickly. The game feels a lot more open than Pikmin 3, but the underground sections appear to be more linear, and you may have to come back to underground caves later in the game after you discover more Pikmin

I wish this game would get more upvotes. 5 hours and barely 400.

  21. brzzcode

I played it for about 30 minutes just to get a taste and this game will be amazing. I missed Pikmin and Im going to play 1 and 2 to get a taste for 4.

  22. Flyingpressure

Dam people are really liking the demo? I felt it made the game feel artificial and just not very interesting at all. You’re not alone at all, you’re basically a new recruit of the main squad and do whatever the mission is. The caves were painfully elementary and just a boring slog to run through. The mechanic of seeing something on the ledge, run into wall to knock it down got old fast. Idk to me it feels like a switch-era version of pikmin, just a less interesting and casual entry in the series. Definitely a game I can wait for a lucky price on
