Thanks for this! I’ve wanted to re-watch this for a long time. I’m curious if the movie really is…so bad.

Jenny Lewis makes pretty great indie rock these days (and is fantastic on stage, easily the best part of the 2013 Postal Service reunion tour).

Never seen it but isn’t it that movie that’s only purpose of existence to be an ad for a Mario game?

If they were gonna insist on using 80s licensed music in the Mario movie, I think it would have been a fun move to use Send Me An Angel as a reference to this movie. Something to subtly tie back to Nintendo’s history in film, for the older audience to pick up on.

Still remember my mom taking me to the theater opening weekend to see it. I loved it. Probably seen it over a hundred times at this point. Highly recommend the collector’s edition Blu-ray released by Shout Factory a few years ago.

The highest budget US Premiere trailer for a videogame ever.

Real talk though I’m gonna have a blast watching this later.

Really a strange movie about a kid trying to save his young autistic brother from being put in an institution by an uncaring stepdad. The kids run away from their family, are chased by an evil bounty hunter that actively keeps their family from find them, fall in with a an abandoned young girl, uncover core tragic memories the younger brother has been perseverating on… only to culminate in a Nintendo commercial. That’s what we all remember, Mario 3. Not the young boy stacking things to calm his tantrum while Fred Savage gives an incredibly emotional performance. 90s movies are awesome.
