It’s funny how Melee (and some Ultimate) players are some of the most passionate fans of a Nintendo property or game, yet are ostracized by the rest of the equally devout Nintendo fandoms because they actually see Nintendo how they are. They hate their fans. Objectively, they do not give a rat’s ass about the people who care about them most. And you know why most of you don’t care?

Loving their games and buying their products is fine. Just don’t eat it up and then ignore how little they fucking care. I like Nintendo games, other than Smash. I just don’t like a lot of the choices they make.

If you are trying to make this argument, I don’t think Reddit is the place to do so, I’m sure many people here understand and disagree with some of Nintendo’s recent actions. Just because a subreddit is focused around a company doesn’t mean that it everyone there is a total shill or anything.
I’ll surprise you by saying if you don’t like Nintendo that’s fine play somthing else from another company. Nintendo does not hate their fans that much is very clear. Now I’m not a fanboy by any stretch of the imagination Nintendo has its problems but I think most of them stem from the relations of NOA and NOJ Given the Japanese hierarchy embedded in their culture and how resistant they are to change (declining birth rates, preferential treatment to the elderly) it makes sense why they want certain things in America vs Japan.

People disagree with what nintendo does, but two things, one, nintendo is really out of touch and will do bizarre things that make no God damn sense so when they do stuff like not support fighting games or fight emulation it like there goes old man nintendo yelling at pigeons. Big House 10 shut down for using an emulator (for melee only but they shut the entire thing down), shortly after, Splatoon 2 stream cancelled because the players have names that support melee, few days later Etikons are forced to stop being sold even though proceeds are going to charity. A few days after that HOLY FUCKING GOD IS THAT SEPHIROTH IN SMASH BROS
and all ill will is forgotten. The main thing here is how many companies do shit things, and fans start dislike bombing all of their videos, regardless of topic, but a Nintendo fan could never because it might hurt Sakurai’s feelings :(.
But ohhhh. When Byleth was revealed everyone disliked that? Same with Corrin? What about Sakurais feeling then?
Fans showed way more outrage at Byleths reveal then when Nintendo did everything I just listed in the span of like four weeks.

I feel like there is a lot more of people screeching about Nintendo not being your friend than people who actually think they are. Like it’s not lost of the overwhelming majority of us that Nintendo is a multi-billion dollar corporation and every decision they make is a business one.
That’s also a two-sided coin. If you’re going to make a point to try to call other people out for not understanding that, you don’t get to also take it as a personal affront when Nintendo opts to close old digital storefronts that are no longer pulling in revenue or go after illegal distributions. And it seems like more often than not people are accused of bootlicking, dick sucking, worshiping, etc simply because they aren’t shitting themselves over these unsurprising behaviors from a corporation that exists to make money.

We all agree, Nintedo is a company like any other, a mix of cool people doing cool stuff, a bunch of marketing folks making questionable decisions and legal advisors tjat get payed for saying “Dude i swear, this Youtube video totally costed us 30% of our profit. We should get them banned for this”.

I feel like the only people that rave about Nintendo as a corporation are maldeveloped adults and children. What annoys me more are people blinded by nostalgia and claim Nintendo was far more consumer friendly in the past or something when they never focused on game prices cuz their parents always bought it for them
