New king to dethrone Pokemon? I thought that was yokai watch, temtem, coromon etc…..
Jaune9
It’s a little rough around the edge at the very beginning but it is really, really good
Lunar_Lunacy_Stuff
Iv been putting this off hoping for a physical release to be announced. This seems like a game one of the limited release companies would snatch up in a heartbeat.

People said that about temtem and was not a fan, however cassette beasts is actually pretty fun. The soundtrack and the gameplay is fun, especially the fusion mechanic it’s crazy.
Sp00pyPachanko
Music and animations are fantastic. The gameplay itself is fairly underwhelming. The actual battle system is good, but exploration is bad.
Open world definitely feels like a poor design choice for this sort of game and map’s layout. A ton feels extremely samey.

Bad journalism sadly, too much one sided.
Good looking game tho
CharityShopSmell
Played it on Gamepass and lost interest pretty quickly.

I am 15 hours in and its so addictive… I love exploring and expanding my mapped area

Hey does this game run well now? Remembered seeing it had big performance issues at launch.
Reyfou
I tried Coromon, but meh…
Have in mind that Fire Red/Leaf Green era was peak pokemon for me. The new ones dont get my attention at all.
JFZephyr
It’s and incredible base for a franchise. There’s issues for sure, but it’s a blast with killer music and fun creature designs.

I don’t want none it it ain’t got pikachu son.

I have been playing it the last couple of days, its enjoyable, but kind of insanely bad design choice that many moves say things like ‘chance to hit twice’ but theres nowhere in game, or online to look up what the chance is.
Or you can ‘add an extra coffee’ to the shop with in-game currency, but theres no way of checking what this means or does before buying it.
Rikkasu
The actual game is amazing. I’d recommend anyone to try it. I bought it on switch and haven’t regretted it
IThinkItsCute
It’s 20% off on the eshop right now, btw.
DiabeticRhino97
I just want an all around good digimon game. Cyber sleuth wasn’t bad, but way too much visual novel
erock278
Is this stable on switch yet? I keep seeing people saying it isn’t despite it getting some updates… really don’t want to buy it if it’s going to crash or drop frames constantly.
SoloWaltz
Someone hasn’t played siralim ultimate.
PapaProto
Gave it a try via GamePass and just *could not stand it*.
Couldn’t put my finger in any specific reasons as to why, just felt *wrong* and didn’t vibe well with me.
Some of the creature designs were cool though.
Dat_Dragon
I’d rate this game as a solid “ok” out of 10. The story is so nonsensical that it feels like it came out of an AI, and the gameplay feels more and more lacking as you get into the later game. Bunch of things like the relationship system feel half baked, and lacks the groundedness of say, Persona, since all of the characters are too deviant art-tier quirky to be at all relatable.
PanicResponsible2945
That’s a funny way to say Monster Sanctuary
phantomzero
I played the demo. I will not be buying it.
wookiewin
The game sounds cool, but I found the dig in the article regarding Nintendo and same-sex relationships a bit weird. Pokemon games have zero romance in them, plus they are about kids, so I’m not really seeing the need to even bring it up.
shortybobert
But does it RUN yet?
animalbancho
My biggest complaint with this game is… honestly just the title.
“Cassette Beasts” sounds so fucking awkward phonetically. What an ugly combination of syllables lol.
Wildeface
I couldn’t get into it based on the character movement or visuals. Still holding out for a Pokémon replacement, Tem Tem was close for me.
Yip_Yip2801
Completed it last week. It was so much fun!
Redjar18
Deff not the new king but an esteemed member of the royal court for sure

Performance fixed on switch?
Pikathepokepimp
Similar to monster sanctuary?

Good to see a /r/godot game getting some props!

The Pokemon SV DLC will outsell Cassette Beasts.

Question, I love the monster-taming genre, I have played a lot of them, pokemon, pokemon romhacks, coromon and nexomon.
I have a particular taste though, I want to raise my monsters to become strong but this looks like SMT style where you are expected to chop and change your monsters so you don’t build a connection, they are tools rather than your monsters.
Is that true?

*Looks at Pokémon sales figures*
Yeeah, I don’t think so.

I just bought this game a few days ago, finishing the end right now. It’s very charming. I used to love Pokémon, fell off in the modern gens, this really reignited my love of the monster collector. I have the music stuck in my head as I type this! Very catchy soundtrack, fun designs, very customizable difficulty. Does enough different from Pokémon to be distinct and engaging, but it still has a familiar feel for anyone who wants that kind of experience. Fun story and companion system. The >!Archangels!< are FANTASTIC, such phenomenal designs!
There are minor things it does worse than Pokémon (the storage system is not very efficient and it kills me there isn’t some kind of dex) but overall it’s a really great experience. Scratched an itch I didn’t know needed scratching. Thinking I may pick up Arceus after this.

I played it for a while and it’s a little hit or miss. It’s got some really cool ideas like fusions, interchangeable moves, and bootlegs. But the story is a bit lame, the characters are cheesy, and the world is boring to explore (I do like the wings and stuff, but it feels a bit awkward to use with the 2D sprites vs the 3D world). Also I wasn’t a huge fan of the music personally, it’s like *almost* good, but it’s just missing something? A lot of the songs get a bit grating after a while, and that’s with vocals turned off.
And I get wanting to differentiate from Pokemon by making the player transform into the creatures instead of befriending/taming them, but a lot of the fun of Pokemon comes from how the people and creatures interact and the impact that has on the world. Games like Persona make it work by having really strong characters, but this game doesn’t really deliver on that (yet).
I feel like the game would’ve been a lot better with a bigger team and more time spent working out which ideas work and which don’t. That being said it’s a very cool and ambitious game considering it was made by only two people, and most of my criticisms come from comparing it to huge games made by big teams with way more funding, which I think says a lot.
I’d be very interested to see a sequel of this though, so I hope this game sells well enough/gets enough people interested to warrant that.
Also, yeah, the name needs a little work.

Need that physical release!!

I love Cassette Beasts but I dislike saying anything is the “king” of anything unless it objectively crushes the competition. Pokemon is still closest to that, despite its flaws.
Cassette Beasts isn’t perfect either, but it’s fun and has great music I still listen to, and the story isn’t anything groundbreaking, but it’s also not trying too hard, over simple, or convoluted; it’s just good enough to help hold up the game.
That doesn’t mean it’s going to be for everyone, but it is a breath of fresh air for the genre that doesn’t just feel like it’s trying to copy Pokemon and pretend it’s not copying Pokemon at the same time like TemTem.
TemTem I got as a gift and absolutely loathe it, but I appreciate every decent game that comes out, as more options is only good for us.
