It was for me as a Pikmin fan that jumped in at 3. It was fun to go back and play 1 & 2 ahead of 4 which I’m playing now. 2 was tough for me at the end. I need to go back and get a few treasures from 2 when I’m done with 4.

For anyone who can’t/doesn’t want to watch

    tl;dr on their opinions
+ AI upscaled cutscenes look great
+ Framerate/pacing is locked and never dips
    + Menus have been re-made
    + Gameplay is rock solid

    Runs at 1080p Docked/720 Handheld

    – Could’ve been 60 fps
    – LOD textures like ground textures are from the original game and look dated/poor

I know DF is famous for shitting on a game that drops to 59 FPS, but am I alone in preferring these retro games at their original frame rate?

It always feels alien seeing footage of games like Super Mario 64 in 60 fps

It isn’t a Digital Foundry video until this subreddit downvotes the hell out of it.

About what I expected. Good ports but basic ports. A little expensive but I really wouldn’t mind more ports like this. $30 for a still good game but now on modern hardware with some minor enhancements is a price I’m willing to pay.

Although more on the scale of Metroid Prime would be nice that game looks new.

It’s not a deal breaker, but I’m a little disappointed by how a lot of the text and UI elements in these ports are clearly stretched horizontally from the original 4:3 aspect ratio. Like the text in [this screenshot](https://assets.nintendo.com/image/upload/f_auto/q_auto/dpr_2.0/c_scale,w_400/Microsites/Pikmin/kUO7fw5z6e/Pikmin2_06_EN), especially next to the newly added Switch button icons that are perfect circles.

That said, this is originally a sin of the Wii versions, and those were probably the dev team’s target. The porting team didn’t introduce the issue. I just wish they’d gone in and tidied it up a little more, given that they already had to make UI/text changes.

Honestly bought it for the Nostalgia and because I couldn’t beat the games when I was a kid 🥲

  8. Looks better, but not to a level where I regret grabbing the Wii versions from the Wii U eShop before it closed. Was $10 cheaper, too.

Well it’s portable and on switch. My Wii U is just collecting dust these days

I’ma wait for a sale. I know Nintendo games rarely get discounts but here’s hoping…
