I’m going to SLIGHTLY defend the sequel here, since everyone else is attacking it.
So… I played a bit of the first game and.. well, it stayed only a bit. Cause it was kinda bad.
This game wasn’t a few patches away from being fun, it needed a full overhaul. The physics was just way off. IF they actually went back in and did a full gameplay overhaul, made everything feel tighter, improved graphics, added characters, etc, I think a sequel is well worth it. Maybe it’s too soon? Maybe they just had a good team working on it. I can’t say. But I can say, if they do manage to fix a lot of issues with the first one, a sequel will be a good choice.

The first one was $10 after a month of release, I’ll wait for this one to hit that same price point soon after.

I’m withholding judgment only because Nick Kart Racer 2 is an amazing kart racing game where the first one was absolute garbage. So only time will tell if this is a repeat of that.

This looks so much better than the first one. And the voices are finally in which was my main holdup with the first one. Definitely a buy for me just for that faced paced melee gameplay you can’t find often.

Zuko have to be in this one
Jay-Swifty
So you have the god damn Loud House in here but not a single character from Fairly Odd Parents? Hell even Garfield is in here
Marsxz
It has to be Free to play or DOA sadly

I’m not surprised in the slightest this is happening.
It seems this news is only notable because the first one got so much hype as a “smash killer”, when it was just another entry in a long line of Nickelodeon themed party games released by this ~~dev team~~ publisher. Now, people are like “another one already??” but, he first one was the best performing game this studio has ever done, of course there’s a quick sequel follow-up.

Personally, I’d be VERY hyped if they got some Star Trek: Prodigy characters in here.

Yeah wont buy it. Dont want to make the same mistake , game will die in a couple months.

My first thought is it’s weird to make a sequel to this so quick, but on the other hand I get that no one’s paying attention to updates for the first game anymore, a new game is the only way to make some people pay attention again.
Intelligent_Oil4005
Looks solid. At the very least, it’s bice to see them build upon the first ones shortcomings.
TheMissingPortalGun
I just hope they make the combat feel less ‘slappy’ than the first one. I want impact. I want weight behind the hits!
HauntSpot
YOOO FUCK YEAH! That’s what I was waiting for!
Godamn! The original game was really held back by Nick, so glad to see that this is pushing forward. I hope this can address the issues Nickstars one had. I loved the thing but damn it struggled lmao
RedStar2021
The first game, no joke, was the first Switch game I ever got a refund for. I bought it to play with a group of friends, we gave it about 20 minutes and one of them said something along the lines of, “You should get your money back, this game is a MESS.”

I actually thought the first game played really well and have had a lot of fun with it playing occasionally over the last couple of years. It was obviously lacking from a feature perspective, but I am glad that they are getting a chance to iterate on it and build on the solid foundation they had.
And hey, there’s at leas a pretty good precedent for releasing a significantly improved sequel to a platform fighter 2 years after the first game.

Each Smash game has been substantially different from the previous one, with new interesting game modes, completely new physics, new items, new maps…
If you’re going to show off a sequel to the first game, you have to show more than this trailer does. Mentioning a single player mode without saying how it works? Showing mostly reskins of old maps? Not showing any new items or gameplay changes? It seems to me like they really don’t understand why people didn’t like the first game. And that makes me sad.
All Star Brawl 1 was a great technical fighter with a ton of complexity and depth for people who are really really into competitive aspects of fast paced platform fighters. But that’s not why people bought the game. People bought it because they wanted to have a fun silly time beating each other up as Nickelodeon characters. The sequel desperately needs to cater to that crowd by adding better item support (allow them to be on by default and in all modes, don’t pick up items with the throw button, have decent items that are fun to use… etc), by having wacky fun stages, and having weird new modes. But I don’t see any of that. I just see doubling down and focusing on hardcore tournament players.
Who knows, maybe this could be a marked improvement the way Nick Kart Racers 2 was over its predecessor. But this trailer gives me no reason to think it will be.

As much as I hate when companies release a better version of the same game so shortly after the original failed to deliver, given the circumstances these developers went through, I’m actually cautiously optimistic about this one.
I never bought the original (waited for reviews, which were lackluster at best), but this one looks like it’s fixing most of the problems right out the gate. Voice acting, more characters that should’ve been in base roster, cleaner/less confusing stages, an actual single-player mode, more fluid animation and combos…yeah, it looks like this one actually has a _budget._
I’m rooting for this. I love Smash so much, but we don’t need this to be better or anything. We just need it to be fun and sustainable. Fingers crossed second time’s a charm.

the only fighting game that lets you beat the crap out of a 5 year old kid

This one will take down Smash for sure!

Honestly surprised to see this

The first game should’ve had more dlc characters, especially since there were (now) announcer lines that should’ve indicated more characters release like jimmy neutron, and even some side SpongeBob characters and the like.
The fact that jimmy is in while Timmy isn’t is quite sad

Didn’t the first one *just* come out 2 years ago?
Did this kind-of-okay game really need a sequel?
