**Main Part:**
*Startmenu has learned that the Japanese-based firm could be confirming the existence of new hardware as soon as the end of August 2023. The source, which is in regular contact with multiple studios and platform holders across the industry, told startmenu that Nintendo plans to announce a follow-up to the Switch “at Gamescom.”*
*The source originally tipped startmenu off to this at the end of July 2023. Due to a lack of evidence supporting the claim, however, we didn’t feel comfortable reporting the story. We also felt it highly unlikely that Tokyo company would announce the existence of a console in the European region, considering the leadership of the company is mainly centred in Japan and the USA.*
*However, several details of VGC’s report lining up with what startmenu’s sources said have convinced us that this story holds some truth to it. The source also told startmenu they believe that several studios with close partnerships with Nintendo have received devkits to begin familiarising themselves with the new hardware.*

Probably not

And ruin holiday sales? Doubt it.

They’re not going to reveal it at Gamescom.
Nintendo owns their own announcements. They own their own reveals. They control how you hear about it, and when you hear about it, and how much notice you have about it, and in what method you hear about it. And they would never trust a third party with handling that information.
How, and when, and in what method, the next console is revealed will have a massive effect on their total profit this year, seeing as Nintendo makes a sizeable amount of their profits between October and December each year. It’ll also affect Nintendo’s stock prices, both short term and long term.
They won’t even use a convention as a way for people to get their hands on the new console and try it out, because of the *possibility* of something either being stolen or misplaced or leaked months ahead of time. That’s why whenever there’s some sort of “preview event” it’s with a carefully selected, curated list of invitees who have shown that they are trustworthy.
The only way that Nintendo announces it this year, is if it’s planned to come sooner than Q2 2024, it has backwards compatibility and full Nintendo Account support, and Nintendo announces at the same time that all Switch SKUs have a sizeable price cut. Because to do anything else would be to utterly cripple their business for this year. It was fine for 2016, because their profits depended on the NES Classic and not the Wii U – but no way will they do it in 2023.

They are going to reveal it at Gamescom… to their partners behind the scenes, is what the title really should be.
AtsignAmpersat
Yeah ok
mpen_13
It’s possible. If the system is backwards compatible it will not hurt future Switch game releases.

To selected industry colleagues maybe at most, definitely not to the general public. I don’t see them revealing it so far in advance to the rumored release of H2 2024. They wouldn’t hurt their holiday sales like that, specially since a blockbuster such as Mario Wonder is coming.
I’m a believer of the previous rumor published by VGC, but this one is going to be a no for me.
DjinnFighter
No they won’t. They want Mario Wonder to sell well
Icy_Ad620
Probably revealing in septembers direct
Supergamer138
This rumor is not even remotely believable. If they want to announce a new console, we’ll see a Nintendo Direct come around.
U_Ch405
OP so desperate for karma that they’ll start believing in rumors that are not even close to true.
rexshen
When have they ever showed anything major at gamescom? I swear these rumor guys aren’t even trying.
carl562
Nintendo only revealing it to everyone else who ain’t got a dev kit yet.
Wubbzy-mon
Doubt.
Parent64
No the next console will be announced 2024 and.won’t be coming out till March 27. I am loving the rumors though.
Molduking
No chance lmao
MarvelManiac45213
No way the system gets announced this year and let alone at Gamescom. Nintendo wants to maximize holiday Switch sales and announcing a successor would kill all momentum.
Nintendo has TOTK, Mario Wonder, and Scarlet/Violet DLC all this year to boost Switch holiday sales. No way they squander all of that by announcing a Switch 2. The Successor announcement will probably come in January or February.
Torracattos
Its not happening at Gamescom. I don’t even think it’ll be revealed in the September Nintendo Direct. It’s probably gonna get its own special Direct around the beginning of 2024.
Game_Changer65
hahahahahahaha!
Oh wait, you’re serious? Then let me laugh even harder.

It’s going to be a return to a central main console that includes a screen controller for portable gaming or an active menu screen as you play on your TV. More screen controllers will be able to sync up to the console for local multiplayer with fun gameplay mechanics in hidden role games and splitscreen style racing without cluttering the screen. It’s going to be called the Swii-utch.
