This title is a bit misleading. The Switch 2 cannot be as strong as the PS5 and portable. If it somehow could, it would cost way more than $500. It will definitely be as strong as the Steam deck, which isn’t really a competitor, it is just a PC.

  2. HusseinRing

Never got convinced for a second that Nintendo need to put so much money on power raising the cost, which raises the price, which makes it less accessible as a family console

  3. parental92

people love to set themselves for disappointment are they ?

    1. No it doesn’t
    2. No it wont

Steamdeck is barely 2 years old and people already complains that certain game “too big for Steam Deck”. Chasing hardware is just some endless race for specs sheets. The next Nintendo console will be just “enough” for games Nintendo wants to build on it.

Probably will just barely kiss the “spec” of PS4.

  4. Exhumedatbirth76

Probably be PS4 pro level power…and I will buy it the second MK9 is out for it.

  5. Vaderaziel

Nintendo consoles have always been behind in this department, as well as online multiplayer support. But it has literally never mattered, and I doubt it will start now.

  6. EnigmaUnboxed

Nintendo will always prioritize price over power, we’ve seen what happens when they try to “match” their competitors in terms of specs. The Switch has done amazingly well, despite the technical shortcomings, if Nintendo tries to make a new Switch with similar output to the PS4, what kind of battery life are we going to be looking at?

  7. Substantial_Brain861

It won’t be and it doesn’t need to be. Switch wasn’t as strong as its competitors and its sold fricking 130m consoles. What it needs its a strong 1st party support which it will get.

  8. ImpressiveAttempt0

LOL no. I mean, who wouldn’t want a more powerful Nintendo console? But it’s just not gonna happen. Nintendo hasn’t played the hardware specs race in a long time.

  9. Bl4ckb100d

The “more powerful hardware == better console” mentality is the stupidest mistake some people haven’t learned from. That’s what drove Atari out of the console market. That’s what Nintendo thankfully learned with the GameCube. That’s why GameSpot is irrelevant and incompetent.

  10. Prophet6000

That isn’t gonna be possible if it is still portable. Plus what is the point of chasing the 4k arms race lol?

  11. ChasingPerfect28

I just want it to be backwards compatible.

  12. mackunkey

It certainly doesn’t need to be and it won’t be

  13. Tiny_Assistance9735

    That won’t be physically possible.

  14. Lupinthrope

Just make it powerful enough to run Elden Ring, Red Dead 2 and Cyberpunk and we’ll be golden, feel like those are good benchmarks.

  15. I’d say it should be as powerful as the PS4 or XboxOne at least. Most games dont require the power of the latest consoles to run. Only like the most AAA of AAA stuff. Otherwise developers dont want to overinflated their budget to take advantage of the latest hardware. We’re kind of at this place where pushing the hardware leads to way overinflated budgets and isn’t as big a leap as it used to be.

  16. gen8hype

Then explain how last quarter the Switch outsold the PS5

  17. Asren624

It won’t be and doesn’t need to. Nintendo plays on gameplay innovation rather than optimisation. Expecting to hold a PS6 or even PS5 between your hands is beyond delusional, even if it’s not portable (which never will be the case) it’s ridiculous

  18. chriscucumber

The thing it’s needs is to not have shitty joycons

  19. Caveboy0

People really love talking about a title rather than actually watching videos huh? They are talking about Steam Deck and Asus. We know Nintendo games run pretty well but let’s be honest we’ve seen how third party games run at times. Oxenfree II had a crash on my switch just yesterday. You are kidding yourself that the switch doesn’t have to step it up to a legitimate competitor in the portable indie space.

  20. That1awkwardguy

They’re porting freaking jedi survivor to ps4 and xbox one, if they can somehow get that working, then all the switch 2 will need is at least ps4/xbox one specs

  21. Every_Scheme4343

Nintendo’s teams can do wonders with a ps4/ps4pro level system. It only needs a push, so we can have more third party ports.

  22. CountBleckwantedlove

No thanks. I do not want a $1000 hybrid that can play Series X level games. That would be insanely expensive, and probably so massive I couldn’t fit it in my pockets like I can the Switch.

    Portability, baby!

  23. Appropriate_Lack1036

I feel like they should try something new . Wanna see what else they can come up with in handheld . I’d kill for a beefed up 3ds since I never got to buy one back when it was hype . Clamshell design is also kinda great for carrying it around . It was true handheld.

  24. pompyyy09

My only wish is that switch 1 games and cartridges will be compatible and playable with the switch 2 and vice versa. It wont probably happen but that’s just my wish.

  25. pompyyy09

Should fix any and all drift issues while they’re at it.

  26. KnowThyWeakness

The switch sells fine on its own. It would be nice to have power to run anything but devices on the market already do that. Nintendo isn’t trying to compete in the same way

  27. Starsky65

And this is one of the reasons why I don’t take gaming journalism seriously – their constantly dumb takes.

  28. It won’t unless you want a portable device that will have a playing time of an hour. Lol.

  29. Nacklins

As long as it hits PS4/Xbox One level that’s really all it needs. It will keep 3rd party support with that amount of power and Nintendo games will be even better. There’s no way in hell it will compete with PS5/Series X in terms of power the cost would be way too high and they’re not doing that. That would be abandoning their business model

  30. Einlanzer99

Doesn’t need to be a ps5. But it’s time for better performance.

  31. JustDoaRestart

If it has a nuclear reactor for batteries, then sure.

  32. Boneyking_

It needs to be a portable console as powerful as ps5.

It also needs to print physical NFT and be released with Grand Theft Auto Mario edition in which you control Mario and can drive Yoshi. Also don’t forget 8K, VR without lens, 3D, and 3 screens. 2 are not enough.

  33. FiveGuysisBest

I’m optimistic that they can match a PS4 or PS4 Pro in performance. That should be enough. It doesn’t need to be a beast.

But that would still mean it misses on most big triple A games though that’s not been a big hindrance to success of the Switch anyways.

Basically my ideal hopes for it are that it’s PS4 Pro performance, 1080p OLED and has a modern online features and software. I’d love it if it can run most of the last gen triple A games at 1080/30.

  34. twovles31

Do we think it will be at least as powerful as the base Xbox One?

  35. Hermaphroshep

I can’t look at what Nintendo thinks passes for a portable LCD screen. When it comes to the new Switch it’s OLED or bust for me. I sat out on the original Switch because of the original’s _fugly_ tiny cheap screen and it’s massive bezels. If Nintendo is going to disrespect _my_ time while expecting to take _my_ money, I can wait for another iteration of this Switch 2 (or whatever), exactly like I did with the first Switch.

In the meantime, if Valve were to release an OLED Steamdeck… while Nintendo is still asking consumers to put down an additional $350 for still current OLED models _but with a different paint job,_ as well as dropping a new Switch onto the public with the second ugliest and cheapest LCD they could ever slap onto a portable machine, I would no longer have any incentive to stand by Nintendo.

I’m one of those people who loathed Breath of the Wild. I won’t get into it, I have more important things to do with time than to justify _unquestionable verities_ on Reddit. My opinions of that _asset-flip_ are not terribly different from others who didn’t like the title as well. I also do not care for the lack of polish Nintendo puts into their other tent pole _efforts,_ such as with Pokemon. In the industry 10 out of 10 just means something is garbage without a shadow of a doubt.

Hype sucks, this new Switch better not.

  36. micangelo

Yeah. and Toyota should try to compete directly with Ferrari.

  37. asyrin25

    What competitors are those?

Data shows most switch owners also own another console. The switch coexists with non-portable consoles.

Now of Sony releases a true portable console then maybe there’d be direct competition

  38. reddspeed

    Easy.

Since Nintendo and the Switch successor compete only with themselves, it will be exactly as powerful as the competition.

  39. Riomegon

According to these same people… the “market leader” is a console that has 8k on the box but doesn’t actually run any games in 8k… hell the option isn’t even enabled.

So they’re trying to peddle a “PRO” version in the next year to finally hit the alleged promises the current box that people are rioting NYC streets for can’t seem to achieve…

Save me with this mess that power = good.

  40. Phenom_Mv3

No it doesn’t need to be, when have they ever been? The GameCube and as good as it was it didn’t sell well. Trash journalism
