    From article

    > After today’s Take-Two earnings call, IGN asked CEO Strauss Zelnick why they priced the newly announced port the way they did, especially given the backwards compatibility situation for Xbox.
    >
    > “That’s just what we believe is the commercially accurate price for it,” Zelnick responded.
    >
    > Take-Two’s EVP of Finance, Hannah Sage, also pointed out that the port isn’t just the Red Dead base game, but also Undead Nightmare. When asked if Undead Nightmare was the reason for its $50 price, Zelnick said the add-on “was a great standalone game in its own right when it was originally released, so we feel like it’s a great bundle for the first time, and certainly a great value for consumers.”
    >
    > IGN did ask him about a potential PC release, but Zelnick left it vague, saying he leaves game release announcements up to the developers.

Hes right. He knows all the idiots will buy it anyway even if they moan on the internet about it.

  3. EarthDragon2189

“Did you see how well that GTA collection sold? Why WOULDN’T we price the RDR port this way?”

  4. It will be 50% off soon enough just like the gta trilogy.

  5. fatfuckintitslover

It’s gonna be 30 fps which is crazy in 2023. Glad I emulated this on xenia @ 1440p 60fps.

  6. Shas_Erra

Gonna put this out there again:

It doesn’t matter if this is an “old game”. It takes time and money to convert it for a new platform, produce a physical copy, ship it globally and produce marketing. Those are costs that need to be recovered and, if anything, have increased in recent years. Expecting something for nothing is naive, selfish and downright dumb, so stop whining. If you don’t want to buy it, don’t buy it. No one is forcing you.

I honestly think they porting just for Switch and threw PS4 in the middle because people would be even more upset about a Rockstar game (even if it’s a port) coming only to a Nintendo console. The majority of people that I saw excited about it, is playing on Switch for the first. The backlash wouldn’t be so big if PC was in the middle for sure.

I don’t know, I honestly don’t think is a bad move to bring back a classic for a whole new generation of players to play for the first time. The price is debatable but feels like people took the rumors too seriously.

  8. PikachuAndLechonk

Yup, people will buy it. We on here will complain all day but our lack of purchase is a drop in the bucket… especially since most of us probably weren’t buying it anyway. I’d probably drop 20 bucks for a physical copy on the switch, but that’s me, I have a collecting problem…. Someone who has zero desire to actually play and already has it digitally on Xbox.

  9. HereForAFunTime1

If it’s too much just don’t buy it, I give it a month and it will be on decent sale.

  10. libardomm

Just don’t buy that until it’s on 80% off.

  11. UnderThe102

The pricing is just straight up terrible. You can buy the exact same port releasing on ps4 and switch for 5-10 dollars on xbox. I understand needing to cover costs or whatever but there is no effort being put into this at all. If they had made some graphical upgrades, made a pc port, and probably thrown in red dead online for free then maybe. I know I understand nothing about game development but even I can see this guy is straight up delusional about this take.

  12. Severe_Piccolo_5583

He’s not wrong. People are going to buy it.

And honestly, I don’t blame the people that do pay it that have never played it. It’s one of the best games ever imo and it’d be more expensive to buy an Xbox or ps3 just to buy the game anyway. I wanted a remake too and I’m not saying it’s nice to take it off the PS store to resell it, but people are gonna buy it. Straight up. No use in complaining about it. Especially since it’ll probably be $20 by December

  13. KuntaWuKnicks

It’ll be on PS+ before the holidays

  14. tendeuchen

And I, just some random Switch aficionado with some 150+ games both digital and physical, say that I will wait until the price comes down. Your move, Take-Two.

  15. Quadropus

If they have the entire game on the cartridge then it will be worth every penny. Anything less than that will be worth half price at best.

  16. Take Two is the new EA. That is not “commercially accurate” its not a remake or a remaster. Not surprised given how they abandoned single player dlc for gta 5 and rdr2 for online modes only.

  17. Witch_King_

If it was an HD remaster then it would be in line with other stuff. As just a port it should be $30 full price. This game is from the frickin **360** with no changes.

  18. Bl4ckb100d

It can’t be easy to port rdr to a mobile chip, so for now I’ll reserve my opinion on the price until we see the final result.

  19. bloo_overbeck

It doesn’t even come with the multiplayer, bruh

  20. -Degaussed-

“Market research on other open world RPG rereleases from the same time period has shown that this pricing model is successful the first 6-7 times we rerelease the game.”

  21. Hydroponic_Donut

And when GTA 6 releases, I’ll be waiting for a sale. There’s your accurate pricing. Fuck off.

  22. coffeeandghouls

“It is commercially accurate for my wallet.”

  23. QuinSanguine

He’s crazy. I’d rather pay $60 for a real remaster of this game, like Metroid Prime quality remaster than pay just $10 less for the same exact experience I had on the Xbox 360 that I’ve already played for 200+ hours. I wouldn’t buy this for $20.

  24. Every_Scheme4343

I would buy it at launch, but as soon as I saw the price, i told myself that I’ll wait for a sale.

  25. Starsky65

For what it offer. Lol no. The game should ‘ve been 30-40 bucks.

  26. CRAVINHO87

I’m not paying $50 for a game that’s 10yrs+ old missing its online content and looks to be a low-effort port.

  27. djmetalhawk

Welcome to the digital games only future prices.

  28. Well I guess they’ll figure out if it’s priced “commercially accurate” very soon lol!

  29. If everything is in the cartridge it’s a day one for me.

  30. Superpan21

That doesn’t excuse the lack of a PC port.

  31. UndisputedAnus

If by commercially accurate he means that games in general are releasing for as much then …sure, I guess? But this? Even $30 is too much.

  32. IamDanLP

His Mom is free, is that commercially accurate?

God these Corpo Execs are getting on my nerve.

  33. funsohng

I blame the gamers who pre-ordered (or even worse, bought after it was released) GTA DE.

These companies will not change the course because gamers will never learn. This industry really is what the gamers deserve.

  34. icebreakers0

I can’t find what he was smoking in the article? Did anyone else see?

  35. TheFlexOffenderr

    *LATER IN THE NEAR FUTURE*:

IGN: Take-Two CEO says previous Red Dead Redemption comments were “wrong” states: “we meant COMICALLY accurate.”

  36. BebeFanMasterJ

Never played RDR before, but $50 for a 13-year-old game with no new features and the removal of the online mode is just too much. I’m gonna wait for a sale.

While it’s a bit older, Capcom at least had the decency to add new mechanics to Devil May Cry 3 on Switch and not charge (nearly) full price for it.

  37. antoni_o_newman

    “I won’t buy it until it’s X amount off”

Okay people you all ate up Pikmin 1-3 for $60, relax.

  38. Boneyking_

He thinks so? Well, I think differently, and as a consumer I am the one who decides. Will purchase for 25 bucks at most at the end of the year.
