Nice
I loved the OG TCG game on GBC. I actually played it before any of the mainline games, and it was probably why I got into Pokemon as a kid. Hopefully this means we’ll get an international release of the Japan-only sequel.
**Gen 1 TCG Meta in a Nutshell:**
**Pokémon:**
– Three or Four Hitmonchan
– Three Scyther
– Three Jigglypuff
– Two to Three Wigglytuff
**Energy:**
– Ten Fighting Energy
– Four Double Colorless Energy
**Support:**
– Four Professor Oak
– Four Computer Search
– Four Gust of Wind
– Three or Four Switch
– Two to Four Plus Power
(I hope I can finally beat that damn Team Rocket in Pokémon Stadium 2, it will be tough with only Rentals)
Nintendo’s subpar video game adaptation is probably the only way many people actually got a chance to experience the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
Pokémon cards were only ever traded around as collectibles while I was in primary school and even today I’m convinced the only people actually buying card packs are IRL streamers and YouTubers doing live pack openings for rare cards, money and internet clout.
In fact, the only time I even saw anybody play the physical TCG was when I hung out with the anime society at my uni, which kinda tells me only ultraweebs and a small minority of competitive gamers actually play it. Which is a shame because Yu-Gi-Oh is downright awful by comparison, with a whole lexicon of banned cards, whole novellas of overly complicated card text and over a dozen ways to special summon which you need a fucking degree-level crash course to fully understand.
As for Pokémon Stadium 2, I’m disappointed again that Nintendo, Game Freak and The Pokémon Company refuse to add the Gen 1 and Gen 2 games to NSO and expect us to complete this game’s single player campaign with just rentals. Stadium 2 doesn’t even allow moveset or IV/EV customisation which already makes it an automatically inferior product to the likes of free websites/apps which simulate competitive Pokémon battles.
Black & White remakes not coming I guess? Will this be the first year in a long time without a mainline Pokémon game?
Trading Card game has one of the best soundtracks of any GB game
As awesome as it is Pokemon Stadium 2 is practically useless without being able to bring over your own Pokemon. You could even use them in the mini games and even unlock special Pokemon for certain games.
Okay I know what I’m playing now. I remember playing the TCG on a road trip and it made it fly by.
