It’s worth noting, Baldur’s Gate has a much smaller sample size. 18 reviews to 145 reviews.
I’m thinking I might try out BG pretty soon though.

I’ll edit and didn’t realize sample so small. Also not as if metacritic is end all be all.

There will be people upset by this, but I think it is good and cool if someone makes a game that’s better than TotK. More good games is good, IMO

I feel like the game of the year should go to the game that pushes the standard of video games that year. Botw very much deserved it, but I can’t say that I believe Totk did enough to earn that badge.

Nintendo just doesn’t make quality games anymore. They’ve stooped so low to now just making a sequel Zelda game. Just copy and pasting everything from BOTW to this ‘new’ game. Of course Baldur’s Gate 3 is going to get GOTY over TOTK. Anyone who thought TOTK was deserving of it lives in a fantasy land.

It’s got 20 reviews to be fair. Totk was at the same score well after as well.
Honestly though I don’t know how many reviews PC games tend to get. If it’s sub-50 I can see it staying at a 97 and beating it out though.

Good – Baldur’s Gate 3, an actual sequel, deserves it much more than a game that took 6 years to make that literally reuses 75%-80% of its predecessor’s assets.
If they added more depths to the Depths / Sky Islands / Caves, dropped the shrines / Koroks, and locked the main quests down so that you don’t accidentally discover huge spoilers out of order(>!I found out there was two Zeldas on my first tear lol, then I did all of the tears out of order with something like the 9th or 10th going on that she’s gonna sacrifice herself, then I went to Deku tree to find the master sword and he said it’s in the dragon – i literally jumped off the dragon after i got the sword and flew to the thunder clouds and walked through the clouds accidentally to discover the 5th sage…where she lays out the tears in much better detail with the war…all of this before the four regional phenomena quests, that are all like “Oh there’s Zelda but she’s bad??? lol no duh, I already know that and then they tell me the same stuff the 5th sage told me without the depts copy / pasta style.!< then I’d maybe give it a 9.
I didn’t even finish all of the shrines this go around because it just felt like I had done it all before.
Games of the Years should always push the boundaries of gaming so that it shapes the futures of gaming. Hades redefined the roguelike genre. BotW redefined the open world. BG3 redefined cRPGs. TotK did nothing for its genre. Now bring on the downvotes.
Edit: I will add that this score probably won’t hold because there’s a lot of Nintendo stans that are critics / reviewers on metacritic’s list. They will probably ‘review bomb’ it with an 8 instead of a deserved 9 or 10. I still believe that BG3 deserves it more than TotK because of the genre push it makes.

It doesn’t really mean much when comparing the difference in how many reviews each game has. Not to say BG3 isn’t as good or better, but it just seems pointless to say it’s beaten TOTK when it’s only had about 1/10 the amount of reviews.

Quit uploading this clickbait article. BG3 doesn’t have enough reviews to compare to Zelda yet. Maybe it’s better or worse or maybe they’re both amazing and in different genres. This is such a nothing article and should be ignored.
