> “I think in general, if you look at the past, the path we’ve taken up until now has been this constant release, always regularly releasing products on a fairly fixed kind of a cadence, you might say,” Utsunomiya responded via a translator. “Always having these products able to be introduced and new experiences for our customers, and that’s how we’ve operated up until now. I think we’re still operating in that way, but there’s more and more conversations, as the development environments change, about how we can continue to do this, while making sure that we’re ensuring really quality products are also being introduced.”

TL;DR – They’re aware of “conversations” about their release schedule and are “having conversations” in the company about it. Very PR-speak, which is to be expected.
HueyDeweyandBusey
If they cared about quality then they would go back to the drawing board with the series and get rid of things like always on exp share and having more than 200 creatures in a single game.
You need to cut out the bloat to make a good pokemon game. Catering to the people who want all 1000 monsters in one game is not possible without watering things down.
eatdogs49
It’s for the best. Dedicate more time to Arceus 2 and change the formula.
DannyKazari
His answer doesn’t even mention considering slowing down game releases, he says they’re trying to keep the same release schedule while maintaining the quality, which we already know hasn’t been happening. Just PR non-answers.
redbeard8989
Take 5 years to make a realistic looking game based in the OG Kanto with the original 150. Cut down on the “cute” shit and everyone that played the OGs are adult now willing to splurge on that.
lemjor10
The last five releases have been disappointing, they need to go to an every other year model, OR give the franchise to another studio because GameFreak sucks at 3D development.
SilverIdaten
If they go back to every other year and focus on quality, don’t try to cut Pokémon from the game for the sake of getting the game out, go back to how things used to be, hopefully it reinvigorates my interest in the franchise again. I want to really like the modern games but BDSP completely broke me and SV kind of finished it off.
NoMadLad94
I remember when people laughed at my comment that X/Y to S/M was the shortest amount of time between generations and they should slow down. Everyone wanted them to make them faster.
KazzieMono
A lot of people usually bring up sv, and while it does have worse technical problems than swsh, it’s a much better game fundamentally than swsh. Swsh was an absolute fucking complete dumpster fire of a game, and sv was MUCH better in every regard except performance. I enjoyed sv regardless of its issues, and it’s a little weird to me how people don’t give it as much leeway considering skyrim is exactly the same case.
That said they really do need to slow the fuck down. Even activision realized they can’t push a COD game every single year. Fucking *activision and COD.*
snowythevulpix
im a defender of game freak and pokemon but this pissed me off. the ONLY way to improve the quality of your games is to slow the fuck down and take more time to polish them, but instead of doing that you want to add more workload onto the small dev team at game freak and expect them to release a fully finished and polished product in the same amount of time as it took to finish the last games. it wont work! tcpi is so fucking stupid!
take a page out of zeldas book for the love of all things good! hell even look at fucking cyberpunk (a game thats really good but needed more time to actually be finished and polished, which is incredibly clear if you look at the difference between the game now and when it was released.) point is they cant continue with their current release cycle and expect shit to get better and people to be less annoyed with the quality of their games.
freezeframepls
don’t care about pkm from a good amount of years now
baby ass franchise
Gramidconet
Nowhere in the interview does he mention actually slowing down. He just says they’re having conversations about the current consistent release schedule and keeping the games’ quality up.
Don’t get your hopes up off random articles’ crappy interpretations, people. You’ll just be disappointed.
RosePhox
Of all the people involved with the projects, a COO is one of the people I find myself believing the least, when it comes to statements saying that they actually care about quality.
Pure empty PR speak who knows the audience has no self control.
RIP Pokémon 1996-2017/2019
spinzaku97
They wouldn’t even have to slow down on game releases in the first place if they had the common sense to launch new Pokémon and new merchandise through games developed by third party companies. It’s not like there’s no precedence for this. Nintendo contracts third party companies to fill up its first party release schedule all the time. And it’s not like there’s no precedence for this. They used to have a ton of spin-offs but now there’s barely any compared to previous consoles.
Blofeld69
Am I the only person that really wants let’s go gold/silver? I never see it mentioned
Leafeon523
Wizards said this before ramping theirs up to 11 with MTG. Half expecting the same here.
The_HomebrewTeller
They really should.
DrPengda
You know, at the very least it’s acknowledged, which I respect them for stating. It beats the constant silence and shifting the conversation. Will something come about from it? One can only hope, but addressing it is the first step. I don’t necessarily see much change happening, but I’ll be happy if they do something about it, even slightly.
Basically, if something changes for the better, great! If not, idk how much worse things can really get (unless they’re games truly become unplayable then that’s a whole different conversation)
Stealthinater1234
After a pair of very low quality and unpolished games sold 20+ million anyways, I don’t have much confidence in future installments if they keep pumping out a new game every year or 2. Modern Pokemon is the very definition of quantity over quality.
Brandeaux7
Probably for the best
dank_nugs_69
Good.
2high4much
No point in believing anything to will actually see it. They also said they’d fix their current game lol
M4err0w
well, it would be nice.
alternatively, if you want speedy releases, buy in another quality dev and alternate gamefreak and outside releases.
papabeard88
It sounds like they’re talking about core Pokemon games and not spin offs and mobile games, but they don’t specify. The Pokemon company handles almost everything aside from the core games and marketing. Seems like this conversation would have more weight if it was GameFreak that was interviewed.
James-Avatar
“But we break records no matter what so why would we do that?”
Jarrrad
This is the best news I’ve heard from the Pokemon Company in probably 10+ years.
mlvisby
I am happy for this, obviously Scarlet/Violet was rushed. If they take more time optimizing the next game, also with possible new hardware on the horizon, they could make that defining pokemon game.
imaloony8
Probably won’t happen, but very desperately needs to happen.
FreshBakedButtcheeks
My wife and I would get a second Switch if they released a decent Pokemon game (with all the Pokemon)
SingingDragons
Not even just the danm quality of the games. Please let us have time to get attached to the new Pokémon.
Funky-Cosmonaut
A clickbait headline.
He said the team’s having conversations about maintaining quality while keeping the usual release schedule. Nothing about slowing down.
kennypedomega69
he is not even wrong, one game per year is fine, they just have to up the quality. Hire more people ffs!
dmank007
THANK GOD. Quality over quantity!!
alinamelane
May be big news is coming !
charsquatch23
Pretty please slow down your release schedule
Metroidman
Would honestly be the best think for pokemon
vash_visionz
This is what happens when your game snowballs into the most profitable media franchise in the world, and the profits of the merchandise far exceed what the games bring in. The quality of the games don’t matter when they simply become a vehicle to sell the characters.
eagleblue44
It’s more like they’re discussing how to increase quality while also maintaining the current release schedule. There was nothing mentioned about slowing down releases from what I heard.
