The colourful version is its “battle pose”. I assume if you use it against Rockets, in GBL or against Gyms, it will light up again!

I was confused as well thought it was shiny until my brother got his from the raid and his was a shiny 3 star that got caught on the first ball, fml

Xerneas has a Rest form and a Batlle form. He brightens up when in a battle

but serious answer: xerneas has an “active” and “neutral” state. since xerneas is not in combat it enters neutral state in your storage.

Is this the same case as muk? I saw a rainbow muk fighting grunts and I was unable to beat them and haven’t seen it again after that

When its your partner/just not doing anything, in its ‘normal’ phase, it stays a black/blue color, but when its in its ‘battle’ phase, say a gym battle, TRG battle, or a player battle, it’ll turn into its colorful counterpart

Cuz niantic has screwed up. If you look in your pokemon it shows the shiny version. Even though it isn’t shiny.
