Hi, maybe not the same situation, but I noticed that my routes pause whenever I stop, but then I resume them and they don’t stop again as long as I keep moving.
It’s already difficult enough to find routes, so I hope it helps :/
Maybe try turning your adventure sync off before you start a route. I’ve been having the same trouble and turning off AS let me make a route, haven’t tried following one yet though
I have had it at the start and I’ve had it at the end. I’ve done maybe 15 routes over just as many days and found only one cell.
I had the same thing happen one day. Took 2 steps, route paused, unpause, repeat over and over. Usually 3-4 times in a row, then it would let me walk for a couple minutes before happening again.
About 5 days later I tried the same route and it never happened a single time.
I have no explanation, unfortunately.
My game crashes like 5 times during each route, and each time I have to back track like 50m to get it to resume.
My game actually crashes many times while doing routes. Iv never had it crash any other time, it’s kind of weird and disappointing
Live in a smoll city. Routes? What are they? Can you eat those?
I never even saw a route expect when I was on a train once

I sometimes get it when the route loops or crosses itself. Does it do it on ALL routes?
It is definitely still glitchy. From what I’ve seen I believe it’s a combination of adventure sync and connection. It’s a gps based game that relies heavily on a good connection esp during battle and walking. It’s like when you have poor connection during battle, if it doesn’t resolve itself after x time, you get booted. Incredibly frustrating!
It happens if I switch apps while walking – like if I have to take a phone call.
I’ve only done 2 routes though. The first one when it happened was so linear it was pretty easy to find where things broke off and walk back to continue the route again.
Mine never recognises I’m at the start point so I’ve given up for now

For me it’s because you have to follow it exactly and one of the ones near me goes threw a few houses

Day 1 bug (2016), more than likely. If a CPU core reaches 100%, whatever is processing causes a soft-lock. As this is probably the coding that works on the routes, it forces a pause. If the weather is hot your phone is already thermal throttling.
even though you are probably right next to the starting pokestop the start of the route looks like it is actually up the road a little from you. you’re likely just standing too far away from it and it thinks you’re walking off the route. try getting you character to be standing on where the line actually is then unpause
The only route I’ve found in my area, I keep having this exact issue. Tried doing the route a few times on different days and have yet to be able to complete it

I have to restart the game and turn my phone off for 5 seconds every time I get home from a walk because of how the Wi-Fi interacts with the game and phone. I’d assume it’s a similar issue.

I have yet to compete a route. Might be because I’ve only found one and it kept crashing the app
Fell down the YouTube rabbit hole last night and ended up watching a Zoetwodots video of her trying to complete a 20k route in Japan. It’s basically a shit show.
She could barely start it, constantly got paused, had to redo portions countless times, was forced to use GPS drift in certain spots and had to bail on it because of traffic patterns (but got back on it after using a pedestrian bridge). And at the end, no cell.

I occasionally have this issue as well. No idea what causes it and haven’t been able to figure out how to fix it. Thankfully I haven’t run into it more than a few times and whenever it has happened it’s always happened at the beginning of the route so it’s not like I’m losing progress or whatever.
I blame GPS shenanigans.
I noticed if I pull up another app while on a route it will pause the route.
A route appeared in my area and I tried to walk it during the Froakie Com Day and my game just wouldn’t work. Game kept freezing, Route would pause, game would crash if I tried to unpause. Routes feel like they are in Beta still.

The only way I’ve been able to do routes is to go into apps, remove the physical activity permission. This forces a restart. You can then follow the route and even pause it until you complete it. Just re-enable the physical activity permission afterwards
