My partner and I joked for a while about it. Best I can guess, it’s a GPS tracking issue that corrected itself after you were awarded a candy.

Are you in a route? When I’ve seen this it means the route buddy candy bonus activated. The game doesn’t show the distance correctly but appears to be tracking it correctly on the backend.

IIRC, this happens sometimes if you get a Candy XL through walking distance, the game gets confused and freaks out.
