Should we be concerned about Super Mario Bros Wonder releasing the same week as Sonic Superstars? (And Spider-Man 2 to a lesser extent)

As far as I know, [the October release schedule is absolutely packed with video game releases](https://kotaku.com/october-every-game-release-date-spider-man-alan-wake-1850527775), which has already made me very concerned to begin with since I feel like people would be too overwhelmed with too many games being available at the same time and they would not want to spend hundreds of dollars for over a dozen video games in one month.

Since We know Super Mario Bros Wonder is releasing the same week as Sonic Superstars (And Spider-Man 2 to a lesser extent). Should we be concerned about it?

Different audiences. Wonder will be fine.

Sonic is the one that should be worried.

Mario and Spider-Man are exclusives to their own systems, so not much overlap unless someone owns both systems, and likely they’ll just grab both.

Sonic is asking $60, and it remains to be seen if their game is wortht hat much and it has to go up against two franchises more popular than it is (Spider-Man 1 was like the best selling ps4 game, ever)

  3. Doomedtacox

Lol, bro Wonder is gonna demolish these games

  4. junioravanzado

if you ask me, having a 2D mario and a 2D sonic game releasing at the same time is perfection

  5. louizilla

I couldn’t care less about Spider Man, and Sonic isn’t at the top of my list, so no I’m not “concerned”

  6. StretchKind8509

Sonic fans wish that they could get the sales that Mario gets.

  7. justsound

lol no. it’s mario..and half the concern here is…sonic lol.

  8. blacknotblack

You know this subreddit isn’t a Nintendo employee subreddit right? Why would we give a shit?

  9. laurentiubuica

Nah, man. Mario games always sell like hotcakes.

  10. Dougwug03

Yes, it is a huge problem that multiple good games are releasing at the same time, I hope they cancel them and make more bad games

  11. Straight_Swing6979

Unless you work for Nintendo or are on their payroll, you shouldn’t be concerned about any of that.
If the game is good and you want to play it, buy it, play it and enjoy it

  12. I hear that if you don’t buy all of them on the day they’re released you *might* still have the option to purchase later. I hear that they still sell games even 2-3 years or more after they’re released.

So no, I’m not too concerned.

  13. Jonbeezee

Pretty sure they do this for the holidays. Its good for each game that the lineup is stacked.

  14. Einlanzer99

What’s to be concerned about? Either buy the game(s) or don’t.

  15. Critical-Award5265

Why would you be concerned. What other games it releases with has no impact on the quality. Buy whatever game you want.

  16. dabsalot69

The only thing that should be worried is my wallet that week 😭

  17. Gintoki48

Why is having more good games to play something to worry about? Are you a toddler?

  18. Why would anyone but the suits making money off this game be concerned? Play what you want and stop giving a shit

I hear what you’re saying, OP, but there are only a few reasons to *really* be concerned about a game’s performance:

    1. You’re an employee at the game studio. This is more so the case for higher ranking employees, but all employees have at least some incentive to see their company do well.

    2. You own stock in the game studio.

    3. This release will make or break the console, and thus affect current and future output from the game studio.

    4. This release will make or break a series, and thus affect current and future output within the series.

I’m going to assume the first two don’t apply to you, so you have no worries there. As for the last two, Mario is an established and popular series and the Switch is an established and popular console. Both are here to stay, regardless of how well Mario sells… though, we know from historical data that Mario is bound to sell like crazy

Why the fuck would anyone be concerned. Some of y’all need to touch grass.

  21. twovles31

Any big game that comes out in October Is going to sell very well both at launch and throughout the holiday season.

  22. GreasesPieces

What even is this post. Legitimately what is the point? What are you asking?

  23. Regrettably_Southpaw

Why would you be concerned? Are you worried Nintendo won’t make enough money? This is a really stupid post.

  24. djwillis1121

No. Of the three games releasing Mario is easily the least likely to be affected.

  25. MURDERMr_E

Well, first, why are you concerned? Nintendo is the one financing the game. They have to worry about competition. Spider-man and Sonic aren’t going to stop the game from coming out. You’re going to get to play it when it releases. As far as the financials, which, again, have no bearing on you or your ability to enjoy this game, Mario is the highest-grossing game franchise of all time. Nintendo is going to be just fine.

  26. Foomankru

This is concern trolling, everybody. Please point it out whenever you see it.

  27. twelfthcapaldi

Where’s the concern? They are all going to sell well regardless I’m sure. The only one that may have to worry is Sonic, since their games have been quite hit or miss for awhile and they tend to get super discounted not *very* long after launch. Wonder is going to sell like hot cakes no matter when it releases.

  28. jjmawaken

I’m gonna say no. Sonic looks good but I’ll be getting Mario for sure and Sonic will be a future game sometime or a wait for sale type of game for me.

  29. myjumboeggs

Yes, Sonic and Spider-Man should be concerned

  30. Bigmomma_pump

I think sonic superstars should be worried more than anything, it’s not the same market as Spider-Man 2

  31. GotDemMadUps

Mario is a fucking juggernaut of gaming. Mario himself SELLS consoles, he’s more fucking recognizable than Mickey Mouse, his movie made a BILLION at the box office, if anything Sonic is in massive danger of being overshadowed.

  32. Silverguise

I don’t know what’s dumber, thinking Mario of all titles will be at a disadvantage when released next to another game, or thinking that freakin Sonic Superstars is a bigger threat to sales than Spider-Man 2.

  33. brandont04

Nope. Way two different market. Both Will sell like wild fire. My guest, both will easily sell 10M copies each by end of year. Easily.

  34. JamesUpton87

Nobody should be concerned about that.

  35. Ah-ashenone

we are not nintendo, sega or sony so why should we give a shit about sales or profit?

  36. EarthDragon2189

Lol. Sonic hasn’t been a threat to Mario in decades.

  37. dank_nugs_69

Sonic hasn’t equalled Mario’s popularity since the early/mid 90s lmao

  38. How is this a mod choice 💀💀
