Ahem.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

*”Now, I would like to hear about the next production that you are interested in. …… I think there are many possibilities, whether it is a further sequel or a new stage.”*
>**Fujibayashi:** “I don’t know if this will be the next one or not, but I am thinking about what the “next fun experience” will be. I can only say that I do not know what form that will take at this point.”
>
>**Aonuma:** “There are no plans to release additional content this time, because we feel that we have exhausted the possibilities of creating play in that world. The reason why we decided to make this a sequel to the previous game in the first place is because we felt that new play was worth experiencing in that Hyrule place. Then, if those reasons are renewed, we may go back to the same world. Whether it is a sequel or a new work, I think it will be a whole new play, and I hope you will look forward to it.”
MXC_Vic_Romano
Well that’s disappointing.
PikachuAndLechonk
Doesn’t need it. They released a complete game. I got 140 hours out of it and still have tons to do. Got more than enough out of the game.
KingDragonOfficiall
Kind of bummed out that there’s no DLC but it’s fine considering how much you can do in the game already
novelgpa
I really hope this is a mistranslation because I am very sad if this is true. I needed Master Mode and Kass to return 🙁
IrishSpectreN7
As much as I would love TotK DLC, I wouldn’t be surprised if they already had devkits for whatever the next gen Nintendo device will be. It would make sense that the team would want to get started on a brand new next-gen Zelda rather than continue what they have essentially been working on for the past decade.
bwburke94
No DLC is a legitimate surprise for a game this big, but I suppose that means they think the game is complete as is.
SenpaiSwanky
A bit weird considering Master Mode was a thing in the first game and only served as a new difficulty rather than adding unneeded plot points.
Not to sound rude or whatever, but I stopped trying to make sense out of some of the decisions Japanese devs make *years* ago lol. I just enjoy what they release and don’t dig into it or them as individuals past that.
Not to say other ethnicities or countries have blatantly better devs or don’t make weird decisions, but imo Japanese devs make it seem like it is part of their culture.
Edit – this works for me anyway because I beat TotK once and started a fresh playthrough recently. If we don’t get master mode I won’t have to play a third time and can uninstall for room.
MowMyLawn69
I guess they’re making an entire spin-off game for Kass then.
filans
I hate dlc if a game feels incomplete without it. I love dlc if it adds new content to a complete game.
tinyhorsesinmytea
Good. The DLC in the last game didn’t do anything special. Hit the pedal to the metal on developing the next Zelda game(s). I’ve only got so many of these left before I die.
SiriocazTheII
Funny in hindsight that everyone took DLC as a given, free or not.
SacredNose
Not surprised. I think that’s why they priced it at $70 to begin with.
skepticalmonique
Honestly I’m cool with that, the game is massive as it is.
superyoshiom
Definitely disappointing, but hopefully this means we won’t have a six years gap between games again. Totk was an excellent game but there are so many new ideas for the franchise to explore that I can’t wait for the next entry.
KidFlash999
So no >!Kass!< payoff with that little tease at the end of the newspaper quest?
M4J0R4
I’m okay with that as long as that means they’re already working on the next game and I don’t have to wait 6-7 years again…
I wonder if we’ll see a remake of another Zelda instead soon
MortalPhantom
The thing is… the game does feel like it should have DLC. There is weird stuff missing, like Kas for example.
Also on the website at one point it spoke of online functionality.
My guess is either they cancelled the DLC, or they will release a definitive edition in the switch’s successor
Hydroponic_Donut
I’m okay with this. Of course more is always welcome, but I’d rather play something new and fresh if that’s what they’re wanting to do.
cnoiogthesecond
If this isn’t some kind of misunderstanding or mistranslation, it gives some more context to the $70 price tag
thickwonga
This is very fair, but I was really hoping for a Master Mode, to give me an excuse to play it again.
emubilly
So no master mode? I was kinda putting off finishing the game until master mode came out
_DontStayTheSame_
No Master Mode at the very least? Hard to believe we’re getting a mainline Zelda with no Master Mode anywhere
cokezerodesuka
I really wanted a DLC that expounds on the Depths, but it looks like it really is >!just extra fluff and that the only connection between the surface and the depths is that some locations line up.!<
hepgiu
Let’s be real, they’re gonna keep the planned DLC for TotK Deluxe on Switch 2
grrrreatscott
Surprising with the Zelda and ganondorf amiibos releasing so much later than the game
CountBleckwantedlove
TotK *is* the final dlc. It started out as Botw dlc but became much larger in scope so they turned it into a brand new game.
blank_isainmdom
Praise the lord! Unless they were going to add the story that Botw and TotK were lacking i’d hate them to do a single other thing in that world!
lower-brinstar
fine with many. its a very complete experience with a myriad of things to do and discover. i beat the game without ever killing a gleeok, going to the lost woods, building a house, putting anything useful in my auto build list, lit maybe half the light roots in the depths, etc.
my first replay of the game whenever I get around to it is going to be so fun because I’ve only experienced 50% of the content, tops.
Psychobrick
A game that actually launches complete, without DLC?!? In the year of our Lord 2023?!?! Simply unfathomable!!!
Nick_mkx
> “There are no plans to release additional content this time, because we feel that we have exhausted the possibilities of creating play in that world.
I love that. A real artist.
ThePikesvillain
I’m fine with that. Instead I hope they are spending their time developing a new open world filled with Skyward Sword tier dungeons. Take 5 more years to develop it, there is no need to rush.
FridayCicero702
I’m completely fine with this. The game is already incredibly massive.
In fact, I’m 135 hours in and only beaten 2 temples thus far.
Been spending a majority of time exploring, doing side quests, discovering/completing shrines, testing out numerous builds and uniting the bond between Koroks.
Nicktheduck
Ok so when are these fucking amiibos releasing then
parental92
so you are telling me that Nintendo sold me a complete game since day one ? unacceptable /s
Triforce0fCourage
It’s part of a very small club of games that is feature rich large and complete at launch. Most video game devs can’t even spell those words let alone understand what they mean together.
Hexatona
Honestly, I’m not surprised. There was a TON of content in TOTK.
Funkyduck8
The game is so massively huge as it is, I don’t see why they would make a DLC for it. I’ve had it since around launch, and I’m maybe…20% through the game? That’s with playing at least 5-7 hours a week.
phaserdel
Gut feel is Covid played a part in this. I don’t think they planned for Tears to take around 6 years to release after BotW. The plan was likely to have it out a couple of years ago (hence the same map and it feeling more like an expansive DLC) so they could be deep into Zelda for Switch 2.
Given how long this took, they’re likely doing all they can to make sure a new Zelda is going to release at a healthy point in Switch 2’s life cycle.
It seemed a little odd to me thay they release date Tears right at the end of the Switch’s life when a new console is expected next year but it makes more sense when you realise it was likely very behind schedule.
konsoru-paysan
This actually raises the value of the game now that the consumer doesn’t have to worry about not getting a complete experience without dlc. But free updates to the game to bring out it’s base potential would be nice, would suit well to the final development ideology that Zelda games always have.
ActualSupervillain
Oh no, a complete game on release
I’ll echo the sentiments here – kinda surprised there won’t be any sort of challenge mode added, but I honestly think that’s only because BOTW had one. You know what other games had one?
None!
Except for OoT Master Quest. But I honestly think they wanted to re-release the game and not make it feel totally like a cash grab. So no extra stuff isn’t totally out of the norm.
Between the last paragraph and the start of this one I’ve done a quick line of Hopium and have decided we deserve a Lorule DLC. The main land, sky, and underground isn’t enough. I want to double it.
shortandpainful
The game is enormous. Who would need DLC for it?
AlternativeCredit
Good it doesn’t need it.
Move on to something new.
skeletank22
Good, I finally get a complete game Day 1 on my game cartridge.
Anon_throwawayacc20
Know what? I respect it. Just like Baldur’s Gate 3. You buy a game and you get the complete package. It’s refreshing.
Mexi-Ten
They are probably busy with Tears of the Making a Shit Ton Money 2023.
