I finally sat down to watch Sakurai’s [Kid Icarus: Uprising
retrospective](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-uwRfckTs4), and i’ve found myself become very nostalgic for the game. I particularly remember the game’s launch, Nintendo really went all in on it in a way i’d never really seen them do before, it felt to me at the time that this was the birth of a big new Nintendo IP (OK, technically a reboot).
There was a series of [anime shorts](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7zq1No3HAs) produced, that at the time could be accessed on the 3DS’ video app. There was an AR card game side-mode, physical copies of the game would come with a pack of cards, but you could also buy [booster packs](https://kidicarus.fandom.com/wiki/AR_Cards). Anecdotally I can also remember Nintendo UK hosting a multiplayer tournament in London, this was pre-Nintendo VS so it was a bit of a novelty at the time.
One negative was the awkward controls, which in hindsight was probably the games downfall, it had to be released with a stand because of it – look at this [chonky boi](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/N3tWFXD6MCM/maxresdefault.jpg)!
Seem’s a shame that after Nintendo went in so hard with Kid Icarus at launch, the franchise has been largely dormant ever since. Smash 4 a couple of years later had a very heavy Uprising presence, but I think it’s safe to put that down to Sakurai-bias.
Let’s hope the continued HD remaster rumours eventually come true, because i’d love for this world and its characters to get another chance, just this time without breaking my thumbs.

HD Remaster with controls meant for normal human beings would be an insta buy from me.
Can’t remember any other game that legit hurt me just playing it.
I skipped school to get the game lol
Honestly this game was such a massive part of my memories with the 3DS. When it came out, I was in college and sometimes had a lot of time between classes. My friend had seen me playing the game and went out and bought it along with a 3DS. We spent many breaks playing the game, comparing weapons, playing against each other. It was a lot of fun, and if they ported it that would be worth it for the online alone.
Ok, normally I don’t do the fanboy Nintendo shit, but this time period was awesome. I was following for months, and it came out just asI finished spring quarter in college, and just binged this game for like 10 days straight.
still waiting Nintendo to reconsider revive kid Icarus and make a HD version for Nintendo switch.

Just finished uprising after hearing good things about it. Best 3ds game full stop
I played it 2 years ago. I seriously became obsessed with the game. I did stop playing after realizing it’s basically impossible to get better weapons at a certain point. (They some how went down in strength) maybe it was just me though. But either way I spent a while with that game.
I did hate the final boss though, it was so hard and confusing l:(
Although like I said I’m guessing my gripes with the game were just from me not being good at it. But I love the game regardless of its flaws.
I liked shooting eyeballs through the wall in PvP
Then the meta shifted and that kinda died, but oh well
It has the dumbest controls of all-time but I absolutely loved it. One of the most charming games I’ve ever played
Loved the game and everything around it. I still have some of those cards.
A sequel to Uprising would be the most hype thing for me.
Kid Icarus Uprising with proper Xbox style controls would be an instant rebuy for me.
The original on the 3ds was great, but my hand would always cramp after like an hour of play time.
I am a master of those controls. Once you learn them its just second nature and it allows you to play under Pit´s Skin.
Beat every level in max difficult, every achivment and challenge. More than 300 hours I beleive. Also, PvP was nuts!!!!! (it just needed some balance).
“Seems a shame that after Nintendo went in so hard with Kid Icarus at launch, the franchise has been largely dormant ever since.”
It was dormant pre-Uprising since the release of the Gameboy game in 1991. This is very much in-line with the Kid Icarus franchise.
It’s too bad Kid Icarus will never come back again outside of “Remember Pit and Palutena from Smash?”
I do
Aside from Pilotwings, it *might* have been one of the first games i bought for the 3DS….? Never messed around with the cards too much, though
It’s been quite some time, so I don’t fully remember, honestly…
Don’t think i ever finished that game, though… hard to do since i don’t have a working charging cable…
Granted a Remaster on Switch would really be nice.. controls would be a lot more comfortable to work, with too…
My favorite thing to this day is that E3 trailer that’s just the opening cutscene. “Sorry to keep you waiting!” Still gets me every time. That was a damn legendary
Hurt my hand, and *still* loved the game.
Yep I was so hyped for the game until the reviews came out
I want a sequel to this game so fucking bad.
Yes! I’d love an HD remaster. This game was awesome. I also enjoyed the PvP while it lasted. Also I still use the stand that came with the physical version for displaying my 3DS.
that game should have been amazing but it was severely hampered by being so uncomfortable to play. The stand was not helpful IMO and actually came across as downright embarrassing to me to release that instead of designing a game that would be comfortable from the start.
I really should go back and attempt to finish this game. It’s so gorgeous, the 3D effect is amazing, the music & voice acting are A+ …it’s just a gaddamn chore to play when it could have just had an option for normal human controls. It’s wild that Nintendo can take sometimes take a wild swing from “Intuitive for all” to “Unplayable for most”. Icarus Uprising & Starfox Zero…two absolutely gorgeous games burdened by goofy 2nd screen forced control schemes.
