    That would be fantastic. A nice classic star fox game. Maybe less on rails this time.

  2. DjinnFighter

    >Oh, I’m sure [it’ll return]. I mean, they keep trying, don’t they?

    Except that it took 10 years before they “tried” again with Star Fox Zero. And it was a flop…

    How many years it will take before they try again again.

  3. Starfox has a sellable IP, but it needs some new ideas that don’t just throw out or repackage what made the original and starfox64 so memorable and fun.

    Personally I think starfox assault was stepping in the right direction but suffered severely from the GameCube’s hardware and lack of popularity. Assault wasn’t perfect by any means, but in my opinion if they want the game to make a comeback that’s the direction they need to head in.

    Just stop posting articles like this. Unless the dev is actively working on a new Star Fox game, articles like this mean nothing and waste everyone’s time.

  5. Every Nintendo IP can return, it just needs someone both willing to do it and making a good enough pitch to get the resources to do it.

  6. GalacticPetey

    Potentially a controversial opinion, but I’ve never really gotten the appeal of Star Fox. I tried and just couldn’t get into the original or 64.

    I also feel like it’s a much more niche series than people want to admit. A lot of older Nintendo fans especially herald it as one of the core Nintendo IPs and I feel like it’s not nearly that important. Sure it was a groundbreaking technical achievement back in the day, but that was thirty years ago.

    On the next Switch. It’s gonna be more powerful so we can have 4k Metroid in space, Zelda with zonai tech in space, and star fox in space!!! And Mario Galaxy 3. IN SPACE in 4k!

  8. badgraphix

    The Switch gen is the only we haven’t gotten a new release on. I think it’s too early to really consider the series dead considering it’s always had an irregular release cadence.

  9. Shnazzyone

    I just want a good starfox sequel. Assault was the last good title. Why?

  10. Might be a hot take, but I feel like the next Starfox needs to ditch the on-rails approach and instead make it similar to Ace Combat.

    I think star Fox is one of the few series that Nintendo need to let a western studio take a shot at. It always feels to me like a series that could be a top tier franchise but is always held back by its past. I think star Fox was at its best when they were experimenting with it on DS and GameCube. It just feels like it didn’t find its home in a modern era of video games. But I think when it does it has to potential to be something really special.

  12. Pajama_Man_Dan

    I think I’m in the minority that wants another game like StarFox Adventures

  13. FrugalAvarice

    Miyamoto needs to retire already. Just let some new vision come in already.

  14. myowngalactus

    It’ll be the launch title for Nintendo VR, aka virtual boy 2

  15. g0dSamnit

    It will return in some number of years to feed some new quirky hardware, and said hardware will be awkward with users, and/or compromise the gameplay.

    Candidates:
    – VR but it’s only computer vision hand tracking.
    – Touch controls for flying yet again.
    – Motion controls but it’s the “pretend the controller is a paper airplane” setup. (Maybe like the minigame in Valve’s The Lab.)

    If he’s right, I guess we’ll see. Nintendo has a strange history with the franchise, keeping dead silent about it for long periods of time. There’s more SF content in Smash Bros these days anyway.

    I love those realistic promotional doll things they made in the 90s. They really set a vibe for me when Starfox first came out.
    I’d love if they used those for the in game cut scenes or popups. It would go far to bring back some of the classic Starfox vibe.

  17. VyseInglebard

    I actually really liked Zero. Yes, the controls were awkward to get used to, but once you did there was a satisfying game behind them. The moments when you just barely miss an enemy pilot and time slows and you get a brief bit of dialog between them was incredible and I’d love to see more interactions like that in the future.

  18. I’m thinking Starfox 99 could be awesome. 99 ships flying around a 3D sphere/planet that shrinks as players drop out. Weapon upgrades that can be stolen if you defeat someone. Done in the polygon style but hopefully update the controls.

    They did F Zero so why not Starfox?

  19. MamaDeloris

    Well, yeah. Star Fox is a Miyamoto baby, it was always coming back. As far as IPs go that haven’t seen a new entry on Switch I’d say-

    Coming Back

    * Star Fox
    * Donkey Kong (specifically DK as a platformer)
    * Excite (truck/bot/whatever)
    * NES Remix (Nostalgia is powerful and this has to be an easy to make idea, you could argue the WarioWare series did the early version of this for a while now)
    * Pilotwings
    * PunchOut

    MaybeMaybeMaybe

    * Kid Icarus (not without Sakurai again anyway, Uprising sold pretty well and it’s been 10 years)
    * F-Zero (this is where I would have put it before 99 anyway)
    * Rhythm Heaven
    * PushMo

    Probably Not

    * Wave Race (this one hurts)
    * Wonderful 101 (not sure if Platinum bought the rights back or just got the okay to make the rerelease multiplat, another painful one for me)
    * 1080 Snowboarding
    * Balloon Fight
    * Chibi-Robo
    * Mother/Earthbound
    * Steel Diver
    * Eternal Darkness

    It’s Dead, Jim

    * Golden Sun
    * Sin & Punishment
    * Fossil Fighters
    * StarTropics
    * Gyromite
    * Geist
    * Anything lightgun (Duck Hunt/Wild Gunman/Hogan’s Alley)

  20. I wish a franchise could skip one console generation without this dramatic speculation that the franchise is “dead.”

    Zero, Guard, and 2 all released in the last seven years. That is not bad for a B tier franchise.

    At some point I can be sympathetic to it, most recently with F-Zero because the last game was on GBA.

  21. johnatello67

    Honestly, they need to mix Assault and Command into one type of game.

    Have multiple gameplay styles/options for each level, like Assault. Let me choose the flying route, the tank route, etc, while also picking from 1-3 characters who each have a specialization in a particular aspect of the game.

  22. emelbee923

    I wholly believe there is a ton of potential for the Star Fox series.

    They could easily take the IP and scale it up to be full-on space combat, rather than strictly being a rail shooter.

    Have the player-character for a story mode be a rookie-in-training with the Star Fox team, and being able to fly on missions with the likes of Fox, Peppy, Slippy, and/or Falco. Different team compositions yield different bonuses, specialties, etc. Go on bombing runs, escort missions, planetary exploration, scouting, etc.

    Enhance your own skills to become a full-fledged Star Fox member.

    Have the main team be available for training, but specifically in the Great Fox, able to be talked to, have unique missions they’ll bring the player along for, give a side quest element.

    Co-op is possible (local or online).

    There is a universe of possibility for the series. They just need to do something with it.

  23. jadedflux

    It was probably because I was young and just loved Star Fox anything, but man I thought Adventures was dope

  24. Starfox is Nintendo’s Sonic: Furry, takes itself too seriously, was better back then and always adding unnecessary gimmicks.

  25. cmhansen15

    It’s time to add the GameCube to the Nintendo Online and then remake StarFox Adventures.

  26. Substantial-North136

    Just make a remaster collection with SF 64 assault and Zero and I’ll be happy.

  27. Star Fox’s biggest issue is that every new game is just another remake of Star Fox 64. (Or it at least feels that way)

  28. Wakuwaku7

    Assault was a good game. But I’d like more action with the Arwing and less missions tbh.

  29. Jman0123

    Coal miner says he’s sure the industry will make a turn around any day now

  30. Consistent_Floor_603

    I’ll believe it when I see it.

  31. Xtorting

    I think BotW style open world would fit super well with StarFox IP. Imagine flying to each planet like the map within the 64 version, but there’s different ways to get to those planets and still a locked choice for a specific path. Then once you’re at the planet there would be different ways to complete the mission on that planet. Either saving another ship, defeating a boss, or making an escape after venturing too far deep. There’s so many potentials and possibilities. I would kill for a Stanfield type game but with StarFox.

  32. DabScience

    Few games I will never forget. Starfox 64 is one of them. That nostalgia leads me to buying every Starfox game that comes out.

  33. Wubbzy-mon

    Just make a no-nonsense Star Fox not at the average $60 price tag and it will sell. 64 proved this.

  34. negrote1000

    No one expected Kid Icarus Uprising either so maybe

  35. Ladyboughner

    I wish the devs of Diddy Kong Racing would say the same. 🤞🏻

  36. AleroRatking

    Controversial opinion. Zero is a really good game. Controls are definitely a bit weird and take a ton to get used to. But otherwise, a phenomenal game.

  37. redditdude68

    They need to make one that is not only not a reboot of Star Fox 64, but one that is actually ambitious. They released Assault and Adventures in a time when there were so many shooters on consoles that they didn’t stick out at all. They also weren’t that great.
