How can Nintendo keep a secret so well while Microsoft just had their next console leaked?

People seem almost deserate to know anything about Nintendos next console, yet no matter what, the info train always seems slow. Very slow. But suddenly out of the blue Microsoft has their entire plans for a mid-gen refresh leaked. Not just spec sheats, but entire pictures with detailed plans, and a new controller.

How can one company have almost complete secrecy while the other can have their entire plan leaked casually?

Because they’re not being challenged by the FTC for acquiring a 3rd party.

Probably because Microsoft can use all the help they can get in getting people excited to buy new Xbox systems. These “leaks” are probably used with the intention to help build anticipation while Nintendo’s anticipation comes from the unknown. No one is asking “What is Microsoft’s next console move?” but everyone is asking “What is Nintendo’s next console move?”. Microsoft’s marketing might think “So if no one cares? Maybe teasing what’s next will be what generates buzz?”

    Video title:

    >A New Xbox Console and Xbox Controller **Was Leaked By the FTC**

    Probably that, I guess.

  4. Der_Neuer

Because all we have is a “trust me bro” rumour compunded by the fact it is an old console now.

  5. DanHero91

There’s a reason there are two companies that constantly have jokes about their insane team of lawyers: Nintendo and Disney.

  6. pocket_arsenal

Doesn” Nintendo stuff leak all the time though?

  7. 1. Nintendo has had their stuff leaked a ton in the past.
    2. This leak didn’t come from MS directly (edit: turns out it kinda did, as a mistake in redacting court case documents rather than someone actively leaking stuff intentionally lol)

  8. santanzchild

Nintendo will unashamedly sue the living crap out of you for any leak they consider significant.

  9. Haniihii

I guess this is only semi-related but why is Microsoft making another console? It’s not that old yet, is it bad at running games?

  10. tehnoodnub

As an aside, if that’s all Microsoft have got, their market share isn’t improving any time soon

  11. PS5 Pro and now this mid gen Xbox console are both slated to release in late 2024 which is the same time frame as Switch 2’s supposed release date. Did Nintendo ever directly compete with mid gen console releases before? If not then, Switch 2 might come later in March 2025 then..

  12. Nicolas10111

I love how we’re already mid gen but there’s barely any games that are exclusively for this gen consoles only. Switch 2 being equivalent to last gen will probably not help as devs will have more reasons to target last gen specs lol.

  13. We know almost every thing about switch 2,what are you talking about?

  14. ZeldaisdaGOAT

Michaelsoft has shown since 2012 that they are completely incompetent.

  15. el__carpincho

nintendo’s secret is if they never make another console again then there’s nothing to leak

  16. antoni_o_newman

    1. Nintendo’s next console has already leaked

    2. Microsoft themselves leaked the fact that they expect the switch 2 in 2024, which is easily the biggest most reliable leak as of now

  17. swagadone

The entire NX concept was leaked back in 2016. Not too mention every game they have release is dumped on the Internet weeks early.

  18. skeltord

That’s not their next console it’s just a different model Series X, similiar to something like the Switch Lite or OLED but definitely not equivalent to a next gen system

Well, Mario and Luigi are S-tiered plumbers, so :p

  20. L3g0man_123

Rumors are so rampant that when shit becomes real no one believes them

  21. CarlosFer2201

Define refresh? Pro version or just the same Series X in a different form?

  22. MattInTheDark

Sony’s ninja spies get to take time off.

  23. XenitXTD

Microsoft is in the process of purchasing activision and people are digging more attentively into their information

  24. nessfalco

Because Nintendo isn’t trying to acquire a massive publisher that requires them to produce all of this documentation to the federal government and thus be open to FOIA requests or third-party leaks.

  25. I don’t know on what drugs you’re on. Nintendo has had their stuff leaked constantly for decades.

  26. Because Nintendo didn’t have to disclose internal documents to the FTC over a legal battle to acquire Activision.

  27. Scale of business. When Microsoft does something, it’s on such a large scale that there’s just too many people involved. That makes for a VERY leaky ship. Add the government into the fold and you just can’t keep anything under wraps for too long.

  28. Marka2333

Nintendo aren’t having a major acquisition looked into, that’s pretty much it

  29. ConmanSpaceHero

Wouldn’t the language barrier for English speaking countries maybe help to reduce leaks?

  30. MarcsterS

Plenty of Nintendo consoles leaked. I remember the Wii U leak and stages of grief Nintendo fans went through.

  31. Minimum_Setting3847

Because Nintendo is awesome and original to gaming … Microsoft is just corporate big rich bully …. Fans care about Nintendo …. Fans like Microsoft for its good games but no deep love

  32. There are so many Switch Pro/Switch 2 rumors and “leaks” every year that none believes them anymore. Most likely there’s one that is right but it’s buried down there.

Also they get their directs and even full games leaked all the time.

  33. jjmawaken

Someone got an un-redacted version of Nintendo’s info with Activision and it’s being called Switch NG (next gen). So we do have some details, they are just minor.

  34. Because their leaders clearly think differently.
Because their corporations clearly act differently.
Those two things primarily have affected both what they do, and what happens to them.

How can bob be such a __________ when joe is not?

  35. Because the FTC doesn’t view The Switch as a console. So they would view all of Nintendo’s gaming consoles in the same way. & Sony isn’t paying the FTC to leak Nintendo’s information.

  36. The biggest difference between Sony/Microsoft and Nintendo is that we basically always know that the next Xbox/PS is just the current one but much more powerful.

    Not much to leak basically.

  37. kavalientev

Legally Nintendo is a very toxic company, maybe those leakers think it twice before actually doing something.

  38. thatrightwinger

Microsoft benefits from these leaks because they are looking to hype their fanbase. They want buzz for their sales, while Nintendo has *always* tightly controlled their messaging.

The antitrust hearings has let a lot of stuff come out, but Microsoft isn’t hurting from the stuff that’s come out. The upcoming Series X upgrade thing doesn’t have to be a secret in particular because you can take on look at and just know if you would want to purchase it. Nintendo *knows* that they have to tightly control the media. They released the Wii U, and it wasn’t clear at all that it was a new console. The Switch came out, and it was **obvious** is was something new and different. Microsoft is just going to roll out more of the same: the next thing is just going to be a more powerful iteration of the last thing. Nintendo has to change and pivot, but they have to be *super-clear* about what they do and why you should want it. When they do (like with Wii and Switch), people line up to buy them.

Microsoft can tolerate leaks, because it’s just more of the same; Nintendo’s blue ocean strategy means they can’t let someone else control how their products come and show them off. Nintendo has to be tight and in full control.

  39. Tricky_Ad_7501

Microsoft secretly wants people to know because now I can start saving up for an Xbox Series X X

  40. ants_in_my_ass

microsoft is incompetent whereas nintendo isn’t

  41. SBY-ScioN

They did on purpose they have no games to show or sell the console just sport games and xbox live.

  42. Rusty1031

What? Nintendo has had multiple AAA titles leak weeks before release recently. Pokémon legends, metroid prime remastered, pokémon brilliant diamond were all on torrent sites way before street date

  43. crazyrebel123

Because Nintendo doesn’t actually have a new console. The news you hear is mostly speculation and rumors. It’s easy to keep a secret about something that doesn’t exist. While it’s east to leak info about a product in development by employees
