Really. I mean do people even buy the game on switch
Exile20
Outside of the downgrade of the graphics everything else are bugs and that is all on the devs.
I would argue that they should have changed things up for the switch version and delay it.
Cut out that loading screen and have tips with a loading bar.
Use portraits for the character select screen.
Severely downgrade the stage backgrounds also.
They did a one to one port using the engines low settings and sold it. They did not try, the bugs alone proves that.

Xenoblade 3 graphics show otherwise

While it’s been a great selling point that the Switch can play the exact same games as the other consoles (as opposed to stripped down versions ala GameBoy / DS generations), this is a game that needed a custom Switch version. Wouldn’t even be first game to make a version specifically for Switch. The devs for Crash 4 made lower complexity textures and models so that the game would both run well and still look good. It could have been done if NetherRealm was willing to wait and put the time into it.

I just don’t like the business model of the Mortal Kombat franchise period.
wicktus
If it’s too big then don’t develop it and don’t sell it for 70 bucks
But it’s first and foremost a lazy rushed port with no consideration for players
rdiggity_11
Yeah, I agree with the counterargument. I don’t think it’s necessarily “too big for the Switch.” I think it was a lazy attempt by the developers to optimize it for the Switch. There are parts of the game that run just fine.
TOASTY_3DX
I do believe in time that the switch will be able to handle MK1 better than what it can now. Right now, its a mess and i do kinda regret buying it. I dont own any other current gen console so the switch version was the only option.
Its not unplayable by a long shot but with updates/patches, i do believe Shiver and Sabre will deliver a fun experience with MK1 on the switch.
No way is it worth $70 for the switch port.
chocoboneal
they should gave gone for a different art style for the switch version, the gameplay itself is solid. It just looks chaotic

If NRS or WB was dead set on releasing an MK game right now on Switch to coincide with MK1 launching, they should’ve just made an “MK9 Deluxe” (port the 360 version, minus Freddy due to licensing issues, and then downgrade/add Ashrah, Nitara, Reiko, and the other 3D era fighters new in MK1 and give them each an arcade ending).
I’d pay $70 for that, and so would a lot of people who bought MK1 on PS5/XSX. They could’ve double-dipped, but were too lazy and unambitious to consider the sales longevity such a product would have vs sending this out to die.

We’ll see this on sale for Black Friday for around $29.99.

Of course it’s not going to be 1:1 graphics wise but other large games like Doom manage to both look and play just fine. Even MKX never looked great on the switch but at least it was playable. This is just laziness. Don’t blame this on the devs though. The execs are the ones who decided that putting out an unfinished version of the game at full price was a great idea.
playin4power
I feel like this argument falls apart pretty fast to anyone who has played The Witcher 3 on switch. Yeah it looks worse than other platforms and chugs in big cities a bit, but otherwise runs spectacularly and still looks incredible. You’re telling me they couldn’t make the proper optimizations for two player models moving in a (mostly) static background?

So, mortal kombat 1 is out for the switch as well. And it is BAD, terrible, terrible for the switch.
But what really gets me? Is the fact that it’s the ONLY game on the Nintendo store that doesn’t have any screenshots or video previews to look at.
That is super slimy and deceiving to Nintendo users. They don’t have any previews because they knew nobody would buy it if they saw how low quality it was for the switch.
We all know switch isn’t a system that has glorious graphics and honestly, we would all expect it to be not nearly as good as it would be on PC or PS AND XB. But let me tell you, it’s RIDICULOUSLY TERRIBLE.
Look up some videos and you’ll see what I mean.
Shame on you Nintendo..

i think it’s less of a hardware issue and more of a bad optimization problem. not defending switch’s years old hardware but still. botw, xenoblades, totk, etc all run significantly better than mortal kombat 1.
Big_Butterscotch1047
I can live with the lower quality graphics, it looks good for a handheld. It’s the crap performance that irks me. The load times for online matches are ridiculously long and the clothing textures stretching across the screen is super annoying.
ThisOneTimeAtLolCamp
It should never have released in the first place in the state it’s in. I don’t see any amount of patches fixing it to an acceptable level. It’s just a cash grab by WB/NRS.
4ma2inger
It’s just a bad lazy port.

MK11 barely worked on Switch I have no idea why they tried again? Well actually I do, money but it can’t of been worth it NRS/WB
They should have ported their older games that would actually stand a chance running on switch hardware like Injustice 2, MKXL & MK9. MK9 literally perfect for the switch too since the PS vita had touch screen support and modes so they just port it to switch and boom. They could have alternatively waited for the next switch console?
Wobedraggled
This headline is dumb, the hardware can handle a port…and a better port that what was delivered. Yeah the tech is long in the tooth, but that doesn’t cause the glitches, shit coding does that.
The switch has had some damned impressive ports (Witcher/Doom Eternal/etc) Perhaps Netherrealm should have hired a team to handle the port that’s actually done good work on the switch.
Boon says it’s being addressed so we shall see.
The headline “The Switch can’t do X/Y/Z” is lazy and tired.

This is simply the kind of game I would not buy on an aging portable.

A current gen game being too big for Nintendo’s two gen old obsolete hardware?
YOU DON’T SAAAAAAAAAY.
Without a doubt the switch will not have the graphics of an Xbox, PS5 or Pc. But geez why change 70$ when it’s noticeably a downgrade?!
