DS version still holds up. Kinda weird that they didn’t recreate the outlines given how prominent they are in the original. Seems to currently be the norm with many games with a pseudo 2D style now that displays are no longer tiny.

I’m very excited to try these games! I’ve never played Trace Memory, but it’s always interested me when people would talk about it online.
I played the Famicom Detective Club games a couple years ago and enjoyed those and I feel that Another Code will appeal to me in the same way.

Wow! That game looked amazing for the DS. Most of it’s just stills and pre-rendered but still, that game aged amazingly.

It looks like they didn’t play the DS version at DS resolution (192p). It would be easier to record in an emulator, but I don’t think it would look quite that nice natively. The still shots seem to be native resolution though.
I’ll still try the switch version, so long as they don’t nerf the difficulty.

this look a lot better in nintendo ds.
the 2D art really give more emotion than 3D

Classic case of 3D not looking bad, but the sprite or handmade artwork just carries so much uniqueness and charm that gets lost in translation. Kinda like Advance Wars, they nailed the CO animations but units are not the same in 3D.

I’m starting to think the Switch may be more powerful than the DS.

Honestly the DS version looks significantly better than the Switch version IMO. A lot more grounded in reality and less “Anime” than the updated version. Disappointing.

I replayed the game on my 3DS shortly after the recollection announcement. It definitely still holds up to this day despite the technical limitations of the DS. The remake loses the original’s VN style in favor of full 3D renders. I’m personally impartial to this though I understand why people prefer the original’s style. They’re probably just trying to have the 1st game match the 2nd in terms of graphics.
That said, I’m looking forward to the remake. The puzzles aren’t gonna be 100% faithful even when they can be, which I’m cool with for many reasons. I just hope they’re not going to be *too* easy. The puzzles in the original hit a sweet spot of not being too difficult while also having the creativity to make them fun to solve.

I’m shocked anybody remembers that Trace Memory existed.

So excited for this to come out, as someone who loves puzzle games + VNs/story games, I think I’m gonna love this. <3

So excited for this, never had the chance to play the 2nd one due the e lack of localization and hopefully this remake lead to Hotel Dusk remake and eventually to the game where both games merge as originally intented.

I hope they add a lot to the game, a lot of the charm came from all the puzzles that used the DS’ hardware.
The touch screen, the microphone and even closing the DS and reopening it were all used for puzzle solving.

So many moans…

I might just be old, but I’ll keep my DS ver, looks better imo

Man I remember being 12/13 years old learning English by reading the gameFAQs playthrough lol. This will be a must buy for me

While I love the original game’s look, I think it’s important to remember this is a remake of both Another Code games, not just this one. For those unaware, the sequel, a Journey Into Lost Memories (which is *somehow* even less known than the original) goes the full 3D route. I think ultimately the new visuals are necessary to achieve consistency, even if it stripes away a little of Two Memories’ uniqueness
I think both the original AND the updated visuals are cool! If they ever make a Hotel Dusk remake (please…) they NEED to keep the rotoscoped animations tho
vaendryl
there was an attempt.
i remember playing this game and being pissed off as fuck the ending was basically a ‘to be continued’ in a sequel I don’t remember ever coming out.
