  1. Awesome. Can’t wait to play this for my first time.

I’m excited for Wonder, but i can’t wait for it to come out so a bulk of the marketing can shift towards RPG. It’s by far my most anticipated game this winter.

I was thinking I would stick with OG but after hearing this, it’s honestly just a much cleaner, nicer sounding version of the original. Pretty spot on!

I’m really enjoying these remakes that include an option to switch to the original soundtrack. First one that came to mind was the RE4 remake that let you toggle the old sfx but I also remembered that Nintendo did this with Mario Party Superstars

Now if only they could do a toggle for the old graphics! Return to Monkey Island managed it! How hard could it be? /s

I’ve tried starting the original several times and never really got more than an hour or two into it. Not out of disinterest, it’s just something else always caught my attention. But I’ve never really listened to the music before and god damn does it sound beautiful in either style! I cannot WAIT for this game.

The music of this game is so fucking fire. Every single goddamn song is a banger.

It’s up there with some of my favorite game OSTs of all time, company which includes Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger and Donkey Kong Country 2.

I have played through and beaten SMRPG about 20 (more like 12) times. I’m looking forward to trying out the new music for this remake, but may find myself switch it to the OG soundtrack from time to time.

  9. ZzzSleep

That’s awesome we can switch music. It doesn’t seem like something Nintendo would normally consider.

This is gonna be so great, can’t wait to play through remade Booster’s Tower

  11. I almost replayed the SNES version earlier this year….sure glad I didn’t, can’t wait for this remake

Bandits Way has such an OOMPH to it now. I love it. Forest Maze on the other hand doesn’t seem to have the same swing to the rhythm that the original has, but it still sounds nice.

  13. AquaAtia

Really hoping the TTYD remake gets the same treatment!

  14. Is there going to be new post game story content that they are hiding from us? Seems like a weird thing to keep post game exclusive just for boss refights or even just a New Game + mode.

  15. mrpopsicleman

Not surprising. The Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters could also swap between original and modern music.

Always appreciate when remeakes add old ost as an option instead or some cases where it’s dlc

  17. The Super Nintendo had a sound chip that led to some of the best video game soundtracks of all time.

It was limited to 64kb of memory and had a 32kHz Sample Rate (compared to modern 44.1kHz standard CD quality sample rate). If you take sample rate and divide by two, that’s the highest frequency playback. Most human hearing ranges between 20-20000Hz, so that’s why the SNES isn’t as bright and warm, highest playback frequency was just 16000Hz.

Due to the tight memory constraints, the composers had to use really compressed samples, and do clever compositional tricks to save memory. It led to some of the most clever sampling in music, and that kind of nostalgic granular looping sound of any sustained instrument.

The new soundtrack sounds great, but the SNES soundchip has more character to it in my opinion, because it was doing the most with the least. It’s worth carrying forward and preserving.

So excited for this game. I’ve only been dreaming of it for the last 20 years. Shit I remember I was a kid I would constantly send emails to Nintendo asking them for a direct sequel to Super Mario RPG. This isn’t quite that but this remake is going to be so so special. Hopefully with great sales they finally will make a proper sequel with Geno, Mallow, Smithy making their returns.

I hope this sells extremely well. Hopefully that we could actually get an long awaited sequel as those who played the snes original have been waiting for
