Nintendo Switch

What do you think Switch’s 2024 holiday titles will be? What else is there left?

So the Nintendo president confirmed that support for the Nintendo Switch will at least continue up to the first half of 2025 and that they still have plenty of surprises for 2024, with an emphasis to capture much of the momentum and interest that the Super Mario Bros. movie created.

I guess that means they have a Mario title planned for 2024’s holidays. Maybe Mario Baseball game? Surprise Metroid 4 announcement, probably not? Another enhanced release like Wind Waker/Twilight Princess HD, I can see that happening. Xenoblade Chronicles X on Switch finally? I wouldn’t be surprised by another Kirby game.

There’s actually another reason I ask this. What else is there? They’ve exhausted much of their heavy-hitters like a Mario mainline game, Mario Kart, Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, Smash Bros. that you have to wonder what else is there? Sure, Pikmin 4, Metroid, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem are successful and Nintendo is taking them more seriously but what about the king of big hitters, the big boys like Mario and Zelda? It feels like every year has to have that one title that shines brighter than others and for 2023’s case, it’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Tears of the Kingdom and I’m saying this as someone who believes Pikmin 4 is my GOTY.

No he did not. He said the Switch would receive new titles in the fiscal year *ending* March 2025. If Nintendo released a single new title in April 2024, that would fulfill the comments being reported in that article.

Pokémon’s 2024 title will likely still release on the base switch, so I think that will be the main holiday release for the console. I also think the switch’s successor will likely release in 2024, so that will probably be their main focus over the holidays.

  3. I’d guess a rushed and buggy pokemon game and more cheap Mario remakes designed to make weird old youtubers pop off

What do you mean _what else is there_? Obviously there’s Nintendogs! I will riot if Switch 2 doesn’t have Nintendogs on launch day.

Metroid Prime 4 as a duel release with switch 2!

Despite being on Wii U, there’s still demand for Zelda windwaker and twilight princess ports.

Considering how they can focus their better teams on developing for the new console, while the b teams can bang out remakes like we’re already seeing now, I imagine that 2024 will have quite a few GameCube and Wii ports still.

An actual new f-zero or star fox game

Pokémon always launched on an old system after a successor system released. Crystal, Emerald, Black/White 2, Ultra Sun/Moon all came out after the GBA, DS, 3DS and Switch was already in people’s hands.

Fire Emblem has had installments that have come out after too like Gaiden, Thracia, and Echoes. Though Intelligent Systems has made Paper Mario a death knell for many systems as well like the first one, Color and Splash, and Super Paper Mario was originally a late GCN game before the made the smart decision and moved it to Wii.

I think there’s a pretty good chance of getting Metroid Prime 4. After all the marketing, trailers, and other teasers they’ve been dropping the next few months, its release seems nigh.

Rhythm Heaven as a send-off to the Switch

I still expect Nintendo to drop some cross gen titles specially if the Switch 2 is just a more powerful Switch. Remember the early days of Switch we were seeing 3DS and Switch versions of the same game launching together and ofcourse Zelda on WII U.

Super Mario Bros Wonder looks great but the 2D sidescroller style is not the same experience for me as being immersed in a full 3D Mario game. It’s my happy place. Been really hoping there would be a Super Mario Odyssey 2, pretty much since the day I finished Super Mario Odyssey. But at this point I’m guessing it’ll be next gen for a new 3D Mario game.

Also, as someone who spent countless hours of pure childhood joy in DK64, a completely new and re-imagined 3D “open-world” Donkey Kong game is high on my list of dream-announcements. DK and crew have been far too quiet on the Switch. While it’s a great game I’m bummed that all we’ve had is a port of a Wii-U game.

Thousand Year Door and Luigi’s Mansion already fulfill that. People are looking too deeply in this interview which is a big nothing burger.

Exhausted their mainline Mario game? I didn’t realize you were already playing the next 3D Mario game.

The switch is pretty unique in the market because it proved you don’t necessarily need tentpole releases to move hardware

I can see pokemon having a game next year it most likely will be a let’s go game but I can still see a game non the less.

There is still their dormant IPs like F-Zero, Star Fox, Punch Out, Kid Icarus, and Wario Land, however I think they’re just going to save these for the next system if they do any of them at all.

I think the last year will probably just have smaller scale stuff like remasters/ports, more NSO stuff, and one final cross gen release which will probably be Prime 4.
