Oh man. I’m gonna eat this game up over the weekend. From what I’ve heard online from people who have played the game and these reviews, it seems like it is a new authentically Mario experience albeit not a challenging one. It’s a shame there aren’t any really challenging courses but tbh that is okay with me so long as the game isn’t too short and it stays fresh throughout (if the length compares to Super Mario World, or most other 2D Mario console releases, then that’s perfect). I will still really enjoy this game thoroughly. Can’t wait!

IGN’s scores for the big three’s most recent AAA Game that starts with S. All separated by one point.

-Super Mario Bros. Wonder (9) Switch

    -Spider-Man 2 (8) PlayStation 5

    -Starfield (7) Xbox Series X/S

I’m honestly wondering what Mario game people found challenging that demands this game be challenging. They’re all extremely easy.

The game is stupid fun, which is what it needs to be. Y’all are in for a treat.

Will be playing Spider-Man 2 first, but will be hitting that wonder flower when times are low. Great to see a 2d Mario game review well.

To the end possibly the last year of the Nintendo switch (before Switch 2) we get an amazing Zelda and Mario. How appropriate.

feel so blessed to have a new Sonic and Mario in the same week wow

Can’t wait to play this with my nephews. They’re 5 and 8, and they both love old school mario, sonic, and really any platformer or metroidvania.

It’s been hard finding games they can play 2-player co-op at the same time. Old Sonic 2 is pretty good with the split screen. Mario Wonder looks perfect though!

If anyone has any suggestions on other good 2 player switch games for them that are co-op and side scrollers, let me know! Also on the Wii U, since I have an old Wii U I’m going to give them for Christmas.

This and Spiderman 2 coming out the same day is a hell of a way to end an amazing year for video games! Plus we still have super mario RPG remake next month. Not sure if I’m forgetting any other releases, but thats more than enough for the rest of the year

  10. “Despite the joy radiating from most of the 2D Super Mario Bros. Wonder, it’s not quite up to par with the last mainline 3D Mario masterpiece, Super Mario Odyssey.” I find it quite odd that they compare it to Odyssey, it’s unfair to compare 2D to 3D. Totally different games.

Has ign ever given a 2d side scrolling platformer a 10? Because if this isnt a 10 what could get a 10?

The game is really great, I was hooked by the second level.

It’s a huge improvement over NSMB2 and NSMBU, which seem to be forgettable now.

Though it does seem pretty easy compared to previous entries. You seem to keep your collectables when you die, even if you have passed a checkpoint in a while.

My biggest hesitation is the length and difficulty, especially for the hefty Nintendo price tag. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze was GREAT for replayability and the secret levels unlocked at the end were a genuine challenge that took me forever.

Are there post game levels that give a genuine challenge?

    > Every single Mario platformer game, 2D or 3D, seems to gleefully reinvent itself to some degree, doubling down on the unique delights that they bring me.

Absolutely could not agree less. 2D Mario has been completely stagnant since New Super Mario Bros. on the original DS.

This is the first one to really excite me, I just could not give less of a shit about New U.

I don’t want to sound rude, but before I buy, as a fan of very traditional Mario and the challenging gameplay of later levels, is this game for adults? From what I’ve seen it seems like they’ve added a ton of gimmicks to movement and interaction and the game doesn’t seem too hard. Is this something a 32-year-old man will find fun to play? It seems too easy and sort of childlike even compared to traditional Mario.

Why do people care about IGN reviews when they give a good score but immediately dismiss them as not reliable and paid reviewers when they give a bad score? They should be dismissed as not credible no matter the score.
