No, Super Mario Bros. 3 does not need a remake

[Comicbook reports](https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/super-mario-bros-3-nintendo-remake-rumor/) that Nintendo is seriously considering remaking the seminal classic Super Mario Bros. 3. This seems to have a lot of fans of the series very excited, and I have to ask, …why? The original SMB3 was a genre-defining masterpiece, that is indisputable, and it received a spectacular graphical facelift on the SNES with Super Mario All-Stars. From Switch Online to Virtual Console to the 3DS store to the Gameboy Advance rerelease, the original SMB3 has been available in one form another continuously for the last 3 decades, though Nintendo seems oddly reticent with the All-Stars version. What could a remake possibly add? Will they redo it with new flashy 3D graphics that will completely destroy the charming aesthetic of the original? I really have a hard time seeing how any changes they make could possibly be an improvement. And given Nintendo’s track record, if they do remake it, they will no doubt pull every previous from distribution and threaten legal action against any third-party distributors, so it will quickly become the only version of SMB3 available, and that would be a tragedy. So please, Nintendo, do not remake Super Mario Bros. 3. Just let us have the original and enjoy that. If you want to make new Mario, make new Mario and don’t try to improve on what is already perfect.

The good news is that until Nintendo announces it, it doesn’t exist, and you don’t have to play it if it does end up existing. People like remakes. People like older games remade with modern sensibilities. It’s nothing new, and asking “why” at this point just feels like a reason to express your personal disappointment over something that you never even have to think about.

No game “NEEDS” a remake. Games are remade based on wants. Based on what’s popular and what will get them more money. Doesn’t matter about availability either.

Also I don’t understand the second part when has Nintendo remade something and pulled the old ones off circulation?

They remade Metroid 2 on the 3DS and still sold the GB version. They remade OoT and MM and still sold the N64 versions

Can’t you still play links awakening on the GB App?

Cant you play the nes versions of the Mario games in the nes app and all stars in the snes app and the gba versions in the gba app?

How do you know it will destroy the charming aesthetic? That’s completely subjective

Super Mario All-Stars was not a good remake. The timing and physics are off. The GBA port is not better, it’s even lower resolution than the NES and the sound effects are in worse quality than the SNES. The only redeeming value is in the eReader levels.

I don’t need a remake of SMB3 but I wouldn’t mind some QoL improvements hacked in. Like I’ve never found it easy to run with the B button and then start tapping A to fly, it should just be hold down A to fly upward until the P-meter runs out. Also the original game has some graphical glitches at the edge of the screen that are way more apparent on a modern display. Anyway no one is stopping you from continuing to play the original.

  4. Doesn’t need one. But I’ll be content playing more Mario 3 levels in Mario Maker

    > Coming by way of a leaker named Zippo

    Zippo is full of shit

I don’t need a remake of my favourite game of all time, But I do need a version of SMB3 done in the same way as Super Mario 35.

  7. If they remake it, I will buy it. That’s probably why it might be true.

We can say it already has multiple “remakes”, but if we get another one I hope we get the charm and simple version of the power ups, The Sepia Star, light red Fire Mario, the warm red shirt and black overalls colors of Mario.

It’s pure Nostalgia from my part but the NES version is just my favorite by far.

one of this subs favorite hobbies is whining and complaining about completely optional services that they are free to forget even exists

Links awakening didn’t either and I really enjoyed that remake. same with resident evil 4. It’s one of those that doesn’t NEED to be done, but why not?

  11. encreturquoise

Why not a modern graphic update with the same gameplay and levels, like they did with Zelda ALLTP?

  12. Anotherspelunker

A re-release would suffice. Been meaning to get more collections of classics for Switch. Nintendo, release All-Stars again! And while you are at it, make a DKC one as well

Comicbook just makes garbage articles that are half written by AI.

  14. Jamie00003

It’s been remade already? Mario bros allstars

  15. Smoothyworld

Who said Nintendo are remaking Super Mario Bros 3? Don’t panic, Nintendo hasn’t said anything, so take that “report” with a very large pinch of salt.

  16. trainercatlady

It already got a remake. On super nintendo. And gba.

  17. Dreyfus2006

Yes it seems like a waste of time and resources. We already have Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario Advance 4. The game is still regularly lauded as one of the best Mario platformers (although I personally prefer Super Mario World).

If they are looking at NES games, they should remake Zelda 2 instead.

  18. Oh no!! More content!! That I have the option to not buy!! What am I gonna do 🙁

  19. AstralElement

I don’t need a remake of it, but I would love a new release that has a callback to its setting and themes.

  20. Its2EZBaby

Absolutely useless, pointless post lmao. Nintendo fans thinking their opinions are the penultimate opinion, name a more perfect combo

  21. F what you’re talking about. I would be so damn happy to see how they go about remaking my favorite non RPG Mario

  22. Robbitjuice

While I agree, games like 3 and World don’t need remakes, I definitely *wouldn’t* be opposed to getting remakes for them lol. It’s not even about making them available for younger audiences. I feel like they’re colorful and play well enough that they’re pretty easily accessible. I just wouldn’t mind seeing games from my childhood in a fresh coat of paint — like Super Mario RPG!

  23. AtsignAmpersat

Who gives a shit if they remake it. But also, they haven’t said they are remaking it, so it isn’t even worth wasting time thinking about.

  24. >So please, Nintendo, do not remake Super Mario Bros. 3. Just let us have the original and enjoy that.

It’s not like releasing a remaster or remake means that the previous versions stop working or become unavailable. What even is this post?

  25. S0_Crates

SMB3 has already had remakes. Super Mario All Stars on SNES, GBA version, etc.
No one complained. They were just different.

  26. AvocadoJackson

So you’re angry because people are exciting for something that you aren’t? The heck is wrong with you

  27. Minifigamer

Besides that, Super Mario Bros 3 already has a remake, it’s called Super Mario Advance 4
