Some details:
> Today, we are excited to announce the arrival of Disney Dreamlight Valley: A Rift in Time, a paid Expansion Pass coming to Disney Dreamlight Valley this December 5th.
>
> Early Access has been incredibly valuable for the entire Disney Dreamlight Valley team. Thanks to your enthusiasm and participation over the past year, we have had the chance to build the game we aspired to, while implementing your feedback to make the Valley experience even more magical. Reflecting on the journey we’ve been on with all of you, we’re so excited to share that on December 5th, Disney Dreamlight Valley will be leaving Early Access.
>
> As we transition to launch, existing players will keep their access to the game, their Moonstones, and their save game.
>
> As we look ahead to the official launch, with the learnings we’ve gained from Early Access, we’ve made the decision to remain a paid game for the foreseeable future. This means we will not make the transition to be a free-to-play game when we leave Early Access on December 5th.
>
> This choice ensures that Disney Dreamlight Valley will be able to continue delivering on a premium game experience for all players. It’s important to us that we maintain our promise to keep delivering free content updates that add new characters, realms, clothing, furniture, and more surprises to your Valley. Purchases requiring moonstones will remain optional, fair, and match the level of quality players have come to expect. Players will still be able to collect free Moonstones via Dream Snaps and Chests, or optionally choose to purchase them.
>
> Moving forward, Founder’s Packs will continue to be available through December 4th. When we transition out of Early Access on December 5th, we’ll be unveiling all-new editions.

Promising from the start that you will eventually be a free-to-play game and then announcing, nevermind, we will never be f-t-p game is an interesting customer strategy.
Backtracking like this is a dumb move, but it was probably worse to announce that it’d be free eventually from the start. It could have been a nice surprise, but when they couldn’t deliver, they wouldn’t dissappoint everyone who was waiting.

$30 for the expansion? Yikes

This can’t be a surprise to anybody right…right?? They see money still rolling in from people buying the game and money rolling in from all the paid bullshit in game. There was ZERO chance this was ever going f2p I’m actually surprised it’s leaving early access. Figured they would milk it in “early access” for another few years.

Not surprising, but still pretty wild considering they’ve built it around the F2P system and it is freaking *ripe* with microtransactions. Very disappointing for a full price game

I only played a little bit at launch but the energy system and general mechanics *screamed* free to play… How do people that paid for this find it OK to be locked out of playing it when you have no ‘energy’ and have to buy more through microtransactions to continue playing? Wild.

Uninformed Disney lovers don’t see this as a blessing in disguise; the whole game economy would collapse if they went to plan with F2P as Gameloft is pretty predatory with its MTX

Paid for Ultimate version about a month ago on sale and put in over 60 hours so far. There were times I thought to myself that this game is too good to be free to play. It’s a smart business decision but I do feel for those that wanted to play on other platforms (bought on switch but looked forward to playing on steam deck and MacOS). The micro transactions are mostly cosmetics anyways, but the FOMO does factor in for hardcore Disney fans.

Glad I never paid for this game, and I won’t be in future.
Welfycat
Well, easy enough to to say I’ll never play this game now.

So basically, they’ve been lying for over a year?
Iam_Shane13
No FtP and now there’s going to be a paid expansion? I’ll pass.
legendkiller595
Will it remain on game pass?

wooaaah disney being greedy!! shocking!

No matter how much I enjoy farming, I’m not buying a game that was built around the free to play model. Simple as that, really
Boroosh
It’s like going to the parks! Pay full price to get access, then pay the microtransactions to participate (Genie+, Individual Lightning Lands, food, and merch)
