So I came across this article on polygon and initially thought it was a piece of satire. However, read it again, and it seems like the author does not genuinely know that Nabbit and Yoshi do not take damage in the game. Obviously, anyone familiar with previous mario games would know this and it is also stated explicitly on the character selection screen as well. Surprised to see a whole article about this at a mainstream gaming website. Or maybe it **was** a piece of satire after all and I totally missed the humor ….

Either satire or poorly written flavour article. Either way, waste of time.
No I think that the author genuinely didn’t know and then wrote an article about it. Hard hitting journalism this is.
I chose the mode that was labeled ‘Easy Mode’ and realized halfway through the campaign that I was playing an easier version of the regular game. Nintendo pulled a fast one on me
Why didn’t they switch characters when they realized they were being robbed of the experience? They just kept on playing the game to completion. I don’t understand this article at all.
Engagement Farming: Not just for Twitter!
You’re helping him getting more clicks.
This is why game journalism is dying.
How do they not know? It tells you you wo t take damage and you cause use power ups
It’s not like the game is hard anyway…..
There is also an article on polygon about the worst take on an incredible scene from the Fall of the House of Usher that was so bad, I had to scroll to the comments to make sure I wasn’t nuts. No, this person just apparently watched a completely different show than everyone else.
The guides and such sometimes can be a real help, but reading the actual articles can be a joke.
That being said, I’d love if Nabbit had a setting not to be a baby mode since he’s so funny looking.
Edit: not baby mode, easy mode. Remembered that sometimes adults new to the game or so on need help too 🙂
This article is 100% engagement bait and its working
> anyone familiar with previous Mario games
This isn’t even true bro. I’ve been playing Mario since the first one and have never even fucking heard of this character because he’s only been in… This game and the Wii U games, as far as mainstream Mario games go. And basically no one had a Wii U. It’s completely fair to know nothing about this character as a normal person. Yoshi also traditionally isn’t playable except as a mount. And I can’t think of a single game where he was invincible until Wonder. Again, maybe the Wii U games? But barely anyone had a Wii U. So your logic is extremely flawed, particularly when you say the part that I quoted since it only even applies to the worst selling Mario games on the worst selling system.
Also, the article wasn’t even that bad. The title was horrible. But the article just explains how the character plays and why some people wouldn’t like it.
Polygon?
There’s your problem.
just ban all posts about polygon please its not news that they write shit articles for clicks and making posts about it only drives more clicks
The irony is lost on them that the Nabbit character is ‘gaming journalist’ difficulty.
Polygon’s article on The Fall of the House of Usher’s “lemon monologue” is the worst thing I’ve read all year. its clear that the site has all but gone to the dogs now
Yea. Very interesting article about a dude figuring out game mechanic that is explained from the beginning. Def worth publishing.
Tehere is still a difference between Nabbit and the Yoshis. Nabbit does not get knock back when hit, Yoshi does.
Is there a good gaming site to read? I’ve come to realize Polygon is a trash site. Kotaku seems a little better, but not by much.
Rock Paper Shotgun and Giant Bomb seem good, but are paywalled.
IGN and Gamespot are ok but kind of bland. Any other good ones?
I mean, it’s a very dumb article that probably didn’t need publishing but I think you’re also misreading it.
The whole article is essentially “I didn’t realize at first it was an easy mode character, I just liked how he looked. Whoopsies, I now use other characters.”
There’s no world in which the article can be read as either satire OR “this person (still) doesn’t know Nabbit is easy mode!” The author admiring their error is literally laid out 2 paragraphs in.
Polygon writers don’t know how to read. Got it.
Why share it tho? It’s clearly engagement bait
They like to make clickbait opinionated articles once or twice. Those are always garbage.
Don’t click the link people.
This is peak videogame journalism.
The game even explicitly tells you while selecting a character that Yoshi and Nabbit take no damage.
