**Support for DLC:**
* Added paid DLC: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass, Wave 6 (two cups, eight courses, four characters, 17 Mii racing suits).
**General:**
* Added “Music” button to the top menu.
This is a feature where you can listen to the background music that plays during the game, as you like.
Even players who don’t own the Booster Course Pass can listen to the background music of the DLC courses.
* Added feature where other players who aren’t friends can join in a Room.
After creating a room, press the + Button or – Button to display the Room ID on the Room screen, and tell your fellow racers the Room ID.
The other racers can join by entering the Room ID in “Search by Room ID.”
* Made it so that you can create a Room even if you have 0 friends registered.
* Added staff credits for the Booster Couse Pass.
* Increased the invincibility time of a portion of characters and vehicle customizations.
* Made it so that you can’t acquire strong items when taking an Item Box by stopping or driving in reverse, or taking an Item Box that is in same location multiple times during a race.
* Shortened the time between when an Item Box is acquired by someone until it is restored.
* Lowered the appearance rate of Mirror and 200cc in “Worldwide” and “Regional.”
* Made it so you can acquire the “Varia Suit” when using a Metroid series amiibo.
* Made it so you can acquire the “Hylian Suit” when using a Legend of Zelda series amiibo.
* Made it so you can acquire the “Kirby Suit” when using a Kirby series amiibo.
* Made it so you can acquire the “Daisy Suit” when using a Daisy amiibo.
**Fixed Issues:**
* Fixed an issue where no Bob-omb car blows up in Wii Moonview Highway, but a Bob-omb car blows up for someone you are playing with online.
* Fixed an issue where, when racing against a Ghost in Time Trials on Yoshi’s Island, the red road would not appear even though the Ghost touched the Winged Cloud.
I’ve been waiting every wave hoping DK Mountain would be one of them. I can’t wait to play it again.

They just killed item bagging with this update and I’m so glad. Tracks like Cheese Land and Yoshi Circuit weren’t fun to play with people just hanging back to grab strong items.
Some “pro” players may be upset at this but I’m glad they got rid of it.

I would pay another )25 for 8 more Battle Course arenas and porting over some of the kart parts from Tour.

Honestly, bagging was so nasty. If you did it right, you could just obliterate some 10 y/o on the other side of the world who’s played 20x as much as you by essentially cheating. Was very fun will miss it.

In all honesty, this is probably the best Mario Kart that Nintendo has ever made in my opinion. Truly the Smash Bros Ultimate of Mario Kart.

Crazy back in early 2022 thinking “damn DLC all the way until the END of 2023 that’s so far away” now look at us.
Super sad to see the booster courses come to an end, but it’s been a great few years of content with lots of surprises throughout
Already been 2 years
I haven’t played MK8D since before the dlc was announced, and I decided I wanted to wait for all the dlc to drop to get the most fun out of it. I’m extra excited for this.
I basically only play online, so there’s no need for me to actually pay for this dlc, correct? I’ll still join lobbies that have the new maps?

This truly is Mario Kart Ultimate.
Now that the DLC is over, my question is: where do we go from this? What type of twist they can add to the new Mario Kart? If the next Switch is retro compatible, would you buy MK9 having MK8 with all this content? Because Mario Kart 8 visually still looks amazing after all these years…
I played this game to death on my Wii U so never bought the Switch port.
Is there a way to buy the game + dlc packs all on one cartridge?
This wave is so damn amazing. I basically love every track.
I just played through it and Wii Rainbow Road just made me so emotional. The nostalgia of this track, the music, the fact that this is the final new track in MK8, a game I loved for almost 10 years.
It has been great seeing the added features! I played the DLC back in summer on a friend’s switch together with him in our vacation hotel and it’s a memory that will stay with me.
And now that MK8D is finally finished, as one of the view that had the Wii-U version, I will pick the Switch version up with the DLC next time the game is discounted.
This game has given me a lot of memories, even the Wii U version that I played back then in 2015/2016 with the love of my life and when I didn’t have internet for half a year it was my main go to to just play and have fun.
I will never forget you Mario Kart 8, and yet I am excited for the next in line in a few years!
The only thing I’d ask for now would be some more options for Balloon Battle.
It looks like the changes to bagging only limit you to 2 strong items per item set, so “softer” bagging by slowing down or stopping will be fine if you just get 2 items. Sorry to all the bagging haters but it’ll remain completely viable, especially in worldwides. If you get hit by an item right after the set, though, driving backwards to get more items won’t work which to me is the only downside of this change.
And thus, the booster course finishes its final lap.
The Switch and specially this game was way less fun than I expected. Not sure what is wrong, on the game or me…
Do folks buy the dlc outright or do you do the premium online subscription. What’s best?
The wave 6 isn’t unlocked on my end? Do I need to do something to unlock them?
Was seriously hoping they’d do an “All Tracks” option or let you do 96 races in versus mode or whatever.
I haven’t played my Switch since I got my PS5 a year ago. I had forgotten that there were more MK8 tracks to be released.
