No offense, but this has been common knowledge since Sm4sh.

Sakurai has been incredibly open about this being part of the reason we didn’t get a story mode, and instead got character trailers.

A decision that I personally don’t agree with, but at least the Smash Trailers are fun to watch.

“World of Light” seemed to be a fair compromise, as the only real scenes involved Galeem and Dharkon.

So basically, we’ll never have another Subspace Embassy

  4. tflightz

Too bad that was the best mode in the franchise. And by that logic no video-game should have any story mode period

  5. I seriously don’t agree with that decision. I don’t think it was worth it to scratch an entire story mode just because of leaks. I get being infuriated but still… idk

  6. StaticMania

    This was already known.

He’s just restating the reason as an explanation for why they started making dedicated Fighter Reveal trailers.

We’ve known, why does everyone on Reddit/Twitter act like this is new?

  8. MrRealistic1

How many times does this need to be posted?

It’s because of sakurai and he still holds that grudge from sub space. Honestly stupid but the trailers were cool I guess

  10. Sub Space Emissary is crazy overrated. I would never want to replay it today.

Honestly I prefer the Character Reveal trailers to story cutscenes. I think it’s a much better way to play into Smash’s narrative.

I think we all deserved a better adventure mode than “World of Light”.

    Because of leaks???

That’s really fucking petty of them to not want to pay working 3D artists or at least give them a job for Smash Brothers.

Getting really tired of people posting quotes from Sakurai’s YouTube videos that are things we’ve known for years as headlines to karma farm

  15. real-dreamer

That’s dumb. Cool things ought to be shared and celebrated. Not hidden away between locked door.

Spoilers might expose a surprise but don’t rob someone of the journey.

Just about everything today gets leaked, not just videogames. Movies, shows, every company has snitches that put spoilers out there, that’s inevitable.

But many people, myself included, avoid these spoilers because we actually want to experience the surprise by ourselves.

I really wish Smash gets a proper story mode again in a future entry, or that they at least bring back special character interactions in some way.

  17. ‘This isn’t news’ Yeah, but Sakurai still hasn’t let it go all these years later.

I’d rather they bring back Smash Run and have a bunch of missions across it and any possible additional maps.

It’s like removing a movie from Theaters because it leaked on 123 Movies. Silly justification for the decision.

Gaming “journalism” is a cancer that thankfully is disappearing and completely unnecessary now.
