Overall a good lineup, though personally I would’ve picked Armored Core over RE4 Remake

I can’t imagine Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t win, but it’s nice to see Mario Wonder nominated, it’s a phenomenal game and my personal GOTY.

The purely biased Nintendo fan in me wants Zelda to win GOTY in a year as packed as this, but as a huge Zelda fan I was slightly let down in places with Tears despite loving the game overall. Maybe if it had proper 3D Zelda dungeons, a stronger story, and more to do in the skies and underground it would be GOTY but I think we’ll have to wait for the next Zelda to see it.
I can however, see it taking game direction. While not my cup of tea, the ultrahand abilities were really cool and innovative. Also huge W for Mario Wonder being nominated for both of these awards, what an outstanding game.

BG3 irl but AC6 in my heart. Sad it didn’t get nominated

Baldur’s Gate 3 is going to win by a mile. It wasn’t my cup of tea, however, I can’t deny the quality and love that was poured into this game! Regardless, this is a phenomenal list of well deserving titles!
TemurTron
Final Fantasy XVI being left off is a disappointing but expected result. That game made me feel a level of hype that I haven’t felt for any other game in years.
Rac2nd
Skull Island: Rise of Kong was suppose to be GOTY
TheKoniverse
~~People are gonna fight over TOTK and BG3 only to be shocked when Alan Wake 2 wins it. xDD~~
Hoenstly very good list overall! It feels like the year for BG3 to win it all, but this year has been really great for games (though not as much for many of the people making said games). Lots of quality experiences overall. I’m personally pleasantly surprised Mario Wonder made the Best Game Direction and Game of the Year cut as well. I’m glad Pikmin 4 and even Advance Wars got nominations too!
I dunno, I guess I just wanna be positive since I know this thread is probably gonna be filled with people arguing.
Locoman7
Baldurs gate 3. The time of the rpg has come.
Citizen51
Does someone just have a list of all the games and categories? The website is running like its powered by a potato.
Juage
Resident Evil 4 mentioned, we won boys
Cardboard_Waffle
This year was stacked for great game releases. I think this is the first year where I’ve actually played most of the GOTY nominees.
Sunburntvampires
They should have expanded beyond six nominees like the Oscar’s have done in the past. There are simply too many games to pair it down to 6 this year.
stickdudeseven
For the music section, I hope to God they use the singing Piranha Plant song for Mario Wonder.
Artdoggo
Why this look like life of Pablo lol
Howwy23
Bro they dead ass want me to choose between advance wars 1+2 reboot camp, fire emblem engage and pikmin 4 for best strategy game? Holy shit thats a hard one.
ThePikesvillain
A Mario and Zelda game side by side in competition for game of the year is a beautiful thing!
yeoldmilk
Sad that Octopath Traveler II will never get the recognition it deserves because it’s a 2D game.
blueblurz94
BG3, SM2, RE4 and TotK were basically guaranteed GOTY nominations. Mario and AW2 are the two that beat out the rest of the crowd for those remaining spots. Tbf, this year was highly competitive all around.
dracoryn
I feel these contests are so difficult with recency bias. Some of these games are still in their honeymoon phase.
Also, this list is stacked as fuck lol.
5kUltraRunner
Hot take but I genuinely found Pikmin 4 to be better than Mario Wonder
fcuk_the_king
It’s a travesty that OT2 was not nominated for best Music. It’s not that the other games aren’t great but it’s a painful reminder of the bias towards AAA in all categories other than indie.
kdog6791
I know Wonder won’t win, but I definitely had the most fun with it
JuicyJay18
The Starfield sub seems to be taking this in stride, they understand by now that the game didn’t deserve it. The FFXVI sub however…there’s a lot of people in there that are unhappy lol
Arch_Angel666
It’s down to Tears of the Kingdom and Baldurs Gate 3 for me. With that being said, everything on this list is fantastic.
Jordan_Jackson
They are all great games but for me, it is between Zelda and Baldur’s Gate 3.
Darkhallows27
It’s really down to BG3 or TotK but I’m betting on BG3
Truly a stacked year for gaming
arkosb
Kinda bummed Octopath 2 got snubbed for both RPG and OST. It’s my personal GOTY lol.
For the actual nominees I’m rooting for ToTK because the ending was perfect, that last sequence is one the best gaming moments for me, but if BG3 wins it’s also well deserved.
2023 was really stacked with good games and we still have good stuff coming up.
limonadebeef
hope flute guy makes an appearance this year during the medley performance
