My eggs always hatch before I can use a star piece

I keep missing out on this sweet stardust and I’m getting so frustrated. I use the widget and it still doesn’t help me. I mindlessly open the app without thinking and boom my eggs are all hatching before I can use my star piece.

I had almost a hundred star pieces that I’ve been using for first catch, field research, and battle league rewards to get a little more here and there but when the big stardust comes in from my eggs I forget to use the piece. I just wanted to vent here instead of chucking my phone at the wall 😭
