Does this mean pokemon I haven’t caught before or just 150 different pokemon

150 different Pokemon starting from the moment you got the research. They can be copies if old ones that you already had, or completely new ones, but each species needs to be different to add a point to the task.
For example you can catch a Pidgey even if you already caught one months ago, then you catch a Pidgeotto and that gives you another point, but a second Pidgey won’t add any more points. They all need to be different from each other.
If it was Pokémon you haven’t caught then that would be impossible for a lot of people
