    **Important bit:**

*The goal is to make first-party games and Game Pass available on “every screen that can play games,” and this includes rival consoles.
“It’s a bit of a change of strategy. Not announcing anything broadly here, but our mission is to bring our first-party experiences [and] our subscription services to every screen that can play games,” Stuart said. “That means smart TVs, that means mobile devices, that means what we would have thought of as competitors in the past like PlayStation and Nintendo.”*

I mean cool, but would have been more helpful six years ago. Probably will have moved on to the next console by the time this could realistically happen. Hope for it or even just Rare Replay on the next console though.

  3. Nintendo/Sony don’t want to give up a large amount of their subscription market share, so I doubt it will ever happen. Unless their hands are forced by more acquisitions of publishers.

I would love to have gamepass on switch but I dont think it’s going to happen, there is no way Nintendo agrees

  5. At some point that’s what we’ll end up with anyway. Streaming apps and right next to them our game apps of choice. As bandwidth continues to increase those options will eventually become a standard feature in our homes. It’s inevitable unfortunately. What we’ll need is more laws to protect our engagement.

  6. If it’s all cloud versions do we even want it

Nah. Don’t want this. Microsoft knew full well that they are losing the console department. So they buy up various studios and publishers, keep their games locked behind game pass and try to be like Netflix. Once everything is all secure. Then they can raise the price on us. Just like Netflix. I mean. They are already trying to eye on various video game studios in Japan. So I fear for the future of the video game industry. But time will tell.

No shit. Microsoft is a SaaS company.

  9. KameraLucida

Yea good luck convincing them after you said it would be great to buy them lol.

Nintendo won’t agree, but they will also murder mine and many other Nintendo fans possibilites of getting an Xbox.

Game pass isn’t that great that I need it on Switch.

Once the initial novelty wore off, I found I would probably be better off just buying the games off it I like.

Pretty much only played Vampire Survivors this month, which is a £4 game.

I can see Nintendo doing their own thing similar to this to expand subscription revenue. Nintendo Switch 2 will come out, and rather than finding ways to re-release back catalogue titles again on the new console, will be rolled into a subscription service.

They are effectively already doing this but typically offered for stuff pre-GameCube. It will be expanded to more recent titles and to 3rd party offerings. May find a way to roll backwards compatibility into a subscription plan where those who port their Switch titles to the new platform will be given a cut of the revenue. Just some thoughts rolling around.

TLDR they won’t do this with Microsoft, they’ll come up with their own competitor with first party titles and some 3rd party exclusives.

It works be insane if I could just own a switch and pay for gamepass and be able to play help anytime im connection WiFi

If cloud gaming was seamless I would be down, always wanted to play Halo on my Switch. Maybe on the Switch 2 in a few years

  15. ProfessorCagan

Yeah, they’ve wanted it on there since 2019 at least, they’ve also wanted to buy them, and I’d wager all my money that they still do. It’s not really news to anybody.

  16. Abba_Fiskbullar

Having another company’s service on your console is antithetical to the business model of game consoles. Consoles are about creating a walled garden that draws buyers with exclusives, which then allows you to charge other developers to access your garden.

  17. FunkyChunk13

No thanks. It would just give them a reason to make a super ultra mega deluxe gamepass which forces you to remortgage your house to buy it

  18. Whitty22

With how it’s completely unsustainable on Xbox consoles only I’m not surprised- they want it on you smart fridge, toaster and nuralink too

  19. littlescylla

if Microsoft wants money from the Nintendo crowd, they already know the answer.
Give us Banjo and Conker. just re-release Rare Replay on Switch

  20. HairWeaveKillers

Nintendo just keep releasing retro games on the online service please. We don’t need gamepass for games that may be poorly optimized for the switch

  21. murder_1

If you know Nintendo you know there is zero chance this would happen.

  22. snicker-snackk

I’m afraid of gamepass. I feel like it’s the beginning of gaming going fully subscription-based like what happened to the movie and TV industry. I don’t need to have 18 subscription services just to be able to play the games I want

  23. drunkentenshiNL

Microsoft wants Game Pass on my fridge. It’s not even a smart one!

  24. Thedea7hstar

Because the console is dead and software is mediocre. Xbox will inevitably be a subscription in a few years. Crazy how bad they fucked up.

  25. NWRJordan

Microsoft wants GamePass on anything with a screen. Why wouldn’t they?

This is another nothing story that’s going nowhere. Nintendo would never agree to it. End of discussion.

This is just posturing to make themselves look more “open” than their competitors. If they really wanted game pass on every device then they’d make a game pass app for Steam deck. It’s an open platform and they’ve had two years to make one but haven’t because valve is a major competitor in pc games. That tells you all you need to know.
