I mean why did you send the last gift? Better for someone to double xp with an egg then no one.
Though I will say as a lvl 50 I never hold anymore unless the other person also has a gift that they can open a so prefer they get last open
Same situation here. Annoying. I foolishly sent them the last gift thinking they wouldn’t give a shit since they’re 50 already. If they don’t open before the end of the season, I’m just deleting them.
Item management… sometimes it doesn’t let me open one… after a big day ill i open as many as possible!!!
Out of curiosity; I’ve had someone on my friend list for a while who has not opened the very first gift I sent them, but keeps sending me gifts. They’re level 48, and it’s annoying me a lot for some reason lol, is there any reason for this or are they just probably too lazy to deal with the gift opening animation?
I am level 50 and always send last gift…why worry about future levels? I’m sure I’ll be sick of it by then.

I wish the lucky egg didn’t work for friendship xp. Stop people like that jerk that screwed over so many low levels just to rack up 21 million XP on the last community day even when they were already 50.

To be fair, opening gifts is such a hassle. I wish there’s a button that can open all at once.
Still curius why Niantic doesnt give a s* about this gifting system, but can come up with payed events and boxes all the time. Like where is your gameplay improvement? Especially on the giftst: how is it possible that you have to wait for someone, to open the last gift to get a certain friendship level, that you exchanged gifts with for more then 90 days? Why cant you decide yourself when to get the XP for this? You dont even get a notification that the XP is about to drop when you are ingame: its there in an instant.
Level 50s are the greediest in hopes of having an edge in leveling up before anyone else.
I personally try to give lower level people a few days to claim rewards first. Anyone equal or higher I try to save for the closest com day and wait til I see them online or check a couple times to battle before popping it.

I just always forget to send gifts so I’m not doing it purposely 🙃
Regardless of what level a friend is, and how close we are to Best Friends, if someone holds onto a gift for more than 2 weeks, I delete them.
I only have 44 friends, so it’s fairly easy to track who’s not opening gifts.
If they’ve stopped playing (you can determine when they played last by clicking on their avatar, if they allow that setting), they get more time. Sometimes people get sick or have other issues that make them stop playing for a while.
This game is supposed to be fun, and you should avoid anything in it that causes undue stress and anxiety.
I’m level 50 and sometimes I just don’t send or open gifts for awhile and loose track of who I’m close to best friends with. I always try to send people the gift so they can use an egg for double friendship XP if they want, it’s just a matter of me noticing we’re one day away.
This isn’t necessarily directed at you OP but I feel like a lot of people on Reddit take gifts and friendship XP a little too personally, most of the time I don’t think it’s as deep as it gets made out to be.

Yes he doesnt need XP,He dont care about u lol, he keep your gift cause he has full inv etc.
I removed a friend like this and it felt good that he didn’t get the XP either.
He was level 50, had my unopened gift for weeks. I figured he was waiting for CD, okay that’s fine.
CD started and I used 3 lucky eggs waiting for him
to open the gift and he never did. even tho it showed him online. So I bit the bullet and removed him.
If i’m a higher level than somebody. I always give the option for them to open the level up gift.
The fact that Niantic makes it a possible one way xp grab is a shame when both players mutually helped each other gain levels. Another reason this game sucks.
I had a local level 50 player get mad at me for opening a gift without telling her first, saying I was ‘sniping xp’.

i’m still confused about all of this. are you collecting idle XP for being “close to best friend”? do you get LESS exp once you reach “best friend” or whatever?
People that hold XP like this suck. I’m just trying to play the game, I don’t care that you want to save 30 BF interactions so you can post how you got 10,000,000 xp during those events. I usually delete them after I notice them online for a few times and they’ve still not returned the favor

This exact thing happened so much to me during my level 50 grind. I even had someone in Japan pop the best friend gift then delete me so I couldn’t get the XP. So maybe I’m being petty to other level 50s because of that experience lol.
The future levels may or may not come, but if they do, we can always get more XP then. I don’t understand the point of rushing or hoarding something that’s not guaranteed.
He’s testing you to see if you stick around and are worth to be his best friend.

Agreed. Bad form. I rarely open gifts now but I always try to send everyone gifts.
