I’m pretty sure no one with a few braincells actually thought this was going to happen.

  2. Scorchstar

That’s because it was already a plan and it didn’t go as they hoped.

  3. Retroid_BiPoCket

I just wish they’d give proper PC gamepass support for linux

  4. Nearby-Tumbleweed-88

Wait, so they no longer plan to do that thing that they planned to do but required their main competition to give up money for no benefit? I wonder why they’d backtrack on that. It’s definitely not because it was a stupid idea with a 0% chance of ever happening.

I’m sure Microsoft’s CFO was thinking in the long-term while Phil’s comments are still in the context of right now. Aspirations for the platform vs. what’s actually going to happen are completely different things. Point being I don’t see either Sony or Nintendo agreeing to it either

Both make a large chunk of change selling third-party games by themselves or offering them through their own subscription services which would be entirely undermined by offering a service like Game Pass on their system given the larger volume of games there, especially the day one drops. And Xbox likewise won’t settle on an abridged subscription that just allows PS and Switch players to play their first-party games through Game Pass because then that just completely diminishes any value that comes with owning an Xbox.

  6. SacredGray

They got caught trying and now have to deny, deny, deny.

While it would be cool to bring Gamepass to Playstation and Nintendo consoles even if they were on board it’d be a licensing nightmare. Any game on the service not owned by Microsoft would need to be renegotiated into Gamepass contract and that would involve so many extra fees depending on which consoles your Gamepass subscription is for. Most likely after everything is worked our a new tier of Gamepass with all 3 consoles plus PC would probably cost $25-30/month with only 2 dozen games available on Switch and PS4/5. Then people would call it a ripoff and Microsoft is being greedy, giving their platforms all the best games. It’d just be a mess

If Sony or Nintendo agreed to this, Xbox would be there.

  9. New_Commission_2619

Phil is one of the most cringe annoying CEOs in the gaming industry. Tries to act and appear as a “gamer” and one of us.

  10. sammagee33

I wish it could have happened. Isn’t there a TV that has GamePass built in?

  11. murder_1

No shit. This is the lamest “news” I’ve been seeing recently

  12. The only way Gamepass will ever come to Nintendo or Sony is if Microsoft bows out of the console market and becomes a third party publisher. The idea of it happening any other way is ludicrous

  13. mvanvrancken

What happened, Phil? Your plans to buy Nintendo didn’t work?

  14. IppoDarui69

I don’t think that’s on Microsoft to make those plans anyways, it’s up to Nintendo and PlayStation

  15. BigFudge54

How many times are people gonna post these lazy articles. Jfc we can’t go one week without seeing this shit on multiple subreddits.

  16. Throwaway753045

We gotta stop listening to Phil at this point

  17. cloudlocke_OG

“We consider them all Xbox players.”

  18. The only way it’ll ever happen is if governments force these walled gardens open. And maybe they should, we should be able to install whatever we want on hardware we own. But until that happens, this won’t.

  19. overactive-bladder

meaning they were blocked by sony and nintendo.

  20. RebelliousCash

Like Sony or Nintendo would ever in the first place. Also this highly contradicts what he said just a few days ago about wanting to bring it to Nintendo. Now there’s no plans too. 💀😂😂

  21. FalafelBall

It’s not a good look when a company’s CEO and CFO are saying two opposite things and contradicting one another.

  22. codykonior

Sigh. Why do people keep republishing this dickhead.

  23. I’d have played so many Xbox games this year if game pass was on the switch

  24. KINGWHEAT98

So what was that whole thing about getting it on PlayStation for.

  25. PlexasAideron

Xbox is a circus, their execs even contradict themselves. Its no wonder why they’re absolutely unable to compete or gain any kind of meaningful marketshare even after buying dozens of development studios and high profile IP’s.

  26. Monotonegent

I feel like I read somewhere that the Oris sold more on Switch than they did on Xbox. I know everyone keeps saying “Nintendo should go 3rd party”. But the real solution is “Microsoft should go 3rd party”. They already clearly want to do it so badly

  27. suck-it-elon

Stay away from a microphone, Phil, if it’s possible.

  28. Analbumparty_15

Seriously, why are all the top executives ruining everything? Movies, music, software, video games? Are they all having a competition to see who can spit in the consumers face the hardest?

  29. mediaphile

Pretty sweet that it *is* coming to the Meta Quest platform.

  30. sonicfonico

Oh my the comments in this subreddit.

You guys talk like if Xbox is some kind of loser who needs Nintendo. Guys, Xbox is BIG. Like way bigger than you think. Is like the third biggest gaming company in the world, just under Sony and Tencent. Yes, is bigger than Nintendo.

Yes, they sell less console. Does that matter? No, they are also on PC and Cloud even Smart TV, and sono Meta Quest.

    They need Nintendo? No.

  31. IputTheStudInStudy

TIL this sub is full of toxic fanboys

  32. Dienowwww

Good. Let people on Playstation see how shitty Sony’s greed is

  33. why would Nintendo or Sony allow a subscription service from a GAFAM that would threaten their games and services revenues ?

If Xbox could, they would, they tried and they failed and it’s logical, Nintendo has other priorities than Xbox net profits

  34. forgotmapasswrd86

I know ill catch a lot heat for this but if there’s any company that should just focus on a software sub model and drop hardware altogether……its Nintendo.

  35. Rustyskeys

The only way I see this happening is if Microsoft backs out of making consoles. And becoming a third party software developer like Sega.

  36. metaphyze

I never really asked for that, but ok. Thanks.
