There was this game on the Xbox 360 back when users could upload their own games call “Hold In Your Farts” where you’d tap a button repeatedly and if you missed you’d fart.

That game is better produced than Pokemon Scarlet/Violet so you’re not doing yourself any favors by claiming to be better than the new Pokemon.

Before people complain about comparing the visuals to Pokémon S/V, keep in mind the DQ monsters games target the same market as Pokémon. Most people interested in this game were likely interested in or played Pokémon too, so it makes sense to say that if you were ok with those graphics/performance then you’ll have no problems with this. I for one thought this was a very fair review and am looking forward to getting it eventually, hopefully with a discount

Dragon Quest monsters, as well as many other games in the monster taming genre, have always enjoyed a lot of parallel success with pokemon in Japan that was never achieved in the west. To people in the west, everything inevitably gets compared to pokemon, as that is the only frame of reference most people have for the genre. As someone who has always loved Pokemon, Digimon, DQM, and Youkai Watch, I am happy to see these games get released here. Add on indie hits like Coromon and Cassette beasts, and its only up from here on out hopefully.

Basically a very fun and addicting game whose main flaw is that the low budget shows with the graphics (At least they did what they could with the Cell Shaded style) and the performance is not as steady as it should (Similar to SMT V or MH Stories 2, usually going 25-30 fps).

I think Dragon Quest Monsters 2 is still the best Monster Catching game ever made and the Breeding/Synthetize system being intact, the story being fanservice for those who played DQIV and having a meaty Post-Game is all I need to know to be sure I’ll enjoy this game a lot.

  5. This a deep discount pick up for me. I normally can look past graphics. But can’t with this game for some reason.

Waiting on a mainline DQ game – never got into Builders or Monsters. Would much rather have had DQX complete with an English translation release. Or one of the HD remasters of the early games. Would have preferred getting more RPG content from the series than the random spin-off titles like Monsters & Builders.

It’s a fair review and I mostly agree with what they say. A little nitpick would be that the arena battles aren’t that bad, even though you don’t have direct control over what’s going on you still have a good level of control as you are able to determine what techniques the monsters will use more often, less often or never use, to give their AI a tactic (attacking, buffing allies, debuffing ennemies, healing or saving mp) that will affect their behavior and more importantly, actively switch said tactic each turn to adapt to the situation. It’s a fun system that aims at relying more on your theorycrafting abilities than your direct strategies, but that lets you strategize anyways. I think it’s a pretty good idea and a nice tweak on the formula the rest of the game uses, but I get why some people will misunderstand it or dislike it.
