Don’t miss this if you haven’t played it. Go in blind.

Really hoping for good performance on this. I’ve played it and love it, but my wife wants to give it a go on the TV.
Guess we’ll see reports from early adopters pretty soon.

I don’t know how good the Switch version is but as long as it’s playable it’ll win my vote for best game on the Switch. It’s *that* good. The archaeologist edition is Outer Wilds + Echos Of the Eye, both are separately contenders for best game of all time, to have both in one package is almost unbelievable.
The highest praise I can give it is that it feels like a game Nintendo could have made but didn’t. It’s clearly influenced by Zelda and Metroid, a game that’s tough and doesn’t make it easy but that just makes solving the puzzles even sweeter (unless you look up the answers online). It’s a game that has variously reminded me of The Wizard Of Oz, Lost and The Matrix.
Ultimately all I can do is tell anyone who listens how good this game is. Not everyone who plays it will love it or even like it just like any other game but I hope you do.

I’ll admit I don’t have the best eye for this kind of thing, but I’ve taken it though the paces to the best of my ability and it seems pretty good given the circumstances.
Downsides:
* Visual quality is obviously hit pretty hard, and the lack of AA hurts.
* Environmental detail has noticeable pop-in, though only for unimportant details like lights/foliage. Important landmarks are never culled, though they use low-LOD versions.
* FPS seems to hover in the mid-20s in areas with a lot more fine details (Brittle Hollow, Ember Twin), and it seems to dip upon entering pretty much any area as stuff loads in. Seems especially bad in >!the DLC area!<, but that’s to be expected. I don’t have a way to track framerate so I can’t speak to any numbers, but the chugs are noticeable but don’t make the game unplayable. Seems to be a little better docked than in handheld, but I can’t confirm.
Upsides:
* Biggest thing imo-outside of ~30s long load on launch + on >!cycle start!<, there are no loads present in the game as far as I can tell. I’ve done everything I can think of try to force a load, but it never halts gameplay. The sense of being able to travel anywhere without hitting a loading screen is preserved.
* Cuts seem to be made very deliberately, and there’s nothing I ran into that struck me as looking especially bad here as compared to PC. Effects/Lighting are cut back but never absent as far as I could tell.
* CPU simulation seems uncompromised, or at least is replicated well if not. Can’t really fully test that now, but it fooled me if they cut it back in any way.
* Game benefits from having low-res textures already, so nothing gets hurt too bad there.
This port was obviously given a ton of love, and I think it shows. It’s compromised pretty severely visually and isn’t the smoothest performance, but ultimately I think it focuses on the right things and comes out as a very playable version of the game. Really hope to get a more complete breakdown from DF/others though!

Low key excited for a game that I’ve never played before. I’m hype for a title cause other people are hyped over it. lol

Game is life changing. Don’t spoil anything and go in completely blind. Only game I’ve played that made me cry

Wasn’t this already on the switch? Main game and dlc separated? Now its just a bundle version with a cute name?

This is one of the best games ever created and the best exploration game ever period. It’s unbelievable how a team so small could create an experience so grandiose.

I will never understand how this game loads assets given the way some planets’ mechanics work but if it needs to have assets loaded at all times I’d be worried about performance on Switch.

Man i cant wait for what they do next. The senses of mystery, dread and exploration are only matched by Subnautica. Well i think OW has the win in mystery and exploration
Double-Passenger4503
Is the archaeologist edition different than the original game?
ScaredofBacon
One of the few games where I think playing portable will hinder the experience. Play it docked if you can.

Hope this goes well. Seems like the perfect game on Switch. Couldn’t really get into it on my previous attempt

Any word on port quality yet?

I’m waiting for a physical hopefully

I’ve spent about an hour and so in the game on switch. Overall it runs just fine. Would say stable-ish 30fps. No frame drops discovered or anything like that. There is some additional settings to boost a performance. Graphics looks amazing (especially on OLED). So far great port. The only thing is that it seems that it doesn’t supports gyro which is a bummer for me.

Is the DLC worth it or should I just get the base game?
PushDeep9980
This game is one of my greatest regrets. I started it during a time in my life where I didn’t have much free time to game. I played it intermittently with a little bit of resident evil 7 mixed in. I played like 7 hours or so and dropped it. I was having a great time to it’s pretty incredible, but I feel like I ruined the experience by not playing it all the way through. And as it’s so critically acclaimed most of the big reveals have been spoiled for me in one way or another. A big bummer. Still, highly recommended. I loved learning how to fly the ship and finding astronauts in different places. Feels big but it’s really contained.
