Zelda wining the Action/Adventure award makes me think Baldur’s Gate 3 will be winning game of the year.

They donโ€™t have people accept awards twice so Alan wake winning direction and totk winning best action adventure confirms it donโ€™t win goty unfortunatelyโ€ฆ which is why they quick presented best rpg.

    Iโ€™m okay with this.

It was an alright game but GOTY is a bit much.

So cool that even Nintendo got to get an award during the PlayStation/Xbox awards show tonight!

It needed to win something so the fans didnโ€™t cause a riot Lol. BG3 had GOTY easily this year.

brief aside: it’s interesting how sequels or “franchise” games don’t nearly have the same stigma in prestigous GOTY awards that exists in elsewhere. Elder Scrolls 4 and 5, Uncharted 2, TLOU2, Witcher 3 and now BG3 all won GOTY at Spike/Game awards. new IP is the exception, not the rule in state-of-the-art games.

For reference, it seems like sequels/franchise films or spinoff TV shows are notoriously discriminated against. Godfather Part II and Better Call Saul snubs come to mind.

Zelda winning action adventure just seems likeโ€ฆI dunno. Iโ€™m glad it got something, but I feel like this is just the default award the series can win.

Atleast it won in its Genre. I honestly think TOTK seems like a big deal more than what it is because it took so long to release for how small the difference from BOTW

  9. I’m still trying to find these cave mushrooms to unlock a tower.

I’m not sure how much Nintendo actually cares about these awards. Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but maybe losing GOTY might be the kick in the pants the team needs to deliver on some of the things fans have been clamoring for since the first breath of the wild.

More complex dungeons, a deeper story, more enemy variety, these are things fans have waited for for well over a decade now. The amount of freedom they’ve given us in these two games is great, but I feel like a lot of the ultrahand and building mecahnics were more of a novelty than anything else for this game, and the classic Zelda elements that made this one of the greatest game series of all time were forgotten.

At the very least we could’ve had a situation like Spider-Man 2, where even if the game doesn’t with GOTY its entire fanbase backs it up. That’s a game that didn’t go crazy in terms of innocation but did everything the fans wanted and perfectly satisfied them to the point where they rallied behing the game to win GOTY. Meanwhile you’ve got Tears of the Kingdom and its own fans criticize the game and its decisions 24/7 and have given up on winning GOTY for months now.

  11. Well, to be honest, Nintendo gives zero f about TGA. You can even see theyโ€™ve been announcing less and less news in the show. Also, when compared to other publishers, the only thing they did was publish some tweets mentioning the nominations.
