What they should've done is allow all rockruff to be eligible for dusk form evolution during the event. Then after the event, make it so all rockruff from adventure sync eggs have guarantee eligibility and rockruff from all other sources have a chance to be eligible
I understand they want to bring the mechanic from the main games, but pokemon go isn't like the main games. You need to pay to reliably hatch eggs and you aren't guarantee to get any specific pokemon from eggs. Sure it's cool to have canon mechanics, but there needs to be a line drawn somewhere due to how different the games function

The only way to teach Niantic a lesson is to stop spending money on the game. Due to fomo, most people will continue spending. Everyone will carry on complaining and spending and Niantic will carrying on with their cash grabbing schemes.

Calling it right now it's says may have a chance to evolve because there will be a window of time in the day to evolve it like the current evolution. Out side the time window it can not evolve hence the "may".

I had saved some really good Rockruff's too – and not only do we have to catch all over again, it's not even sure that it damn thing can evolve!!!!!

No one complained about stantler being unable to evolve (for no reason). This is the natural escalation.
Niantic is trash. I'm glad I evolved two of the shiny Rockruff I have into the other forms. I now know Niantic won't ever offer an evolution option for Cleavor, Wyrdeer, and others. And the fusing of Kyurem, Reshiram and Zekrom will never happen.
In the main games, the only way to get dusk form lycanroc is to catch a rockruff with the hidden ability 'Own Tempo'. They're very rare. So it makes sense that they would do something different in Go
I feel so bad for all the people that saved their 98%, 100%, shiny, hundo, or shundo Rockruff for this only to be disappointed. I am one of them. Got a lucky that I reserved. Niantic man…

It'll be like the main series where the Rockruff that can evolve into Lycanroc-Dusk (the ones with Own Tempo for their Ability) are technically counted as separate forms in the games' codes. It'll probably be the same for GO.
You MISSED the word "SOME" meaning not all of the ones you Hatch or Catch can evolve to the DUSK Form
To be fair, in the main games a Rockruff needs to have a specific Ability in order to evolve into Dusk Form, so we should have known that in GO where there's no Abilities, that it was going to be pure RNG if a Rockruff can become Dusk or not. However, I am still disappointed they're too lazy to apply the RNG to pre-existing Rockruff. I myself had a hundo waiting to see how they were going to execute the most special Lycanroc form.

Bro they are literally in field research, just grind a bunch of pokestops which I assume you are a hardcore player so you'll be doing anyway. No one is forcing you to hatch eggs or do raids. Niantic okay scam you if YOU agree to it
Yeah entirely stupid they could at least do like they did with the evvee evolutions after generation 1 or like they have tyrouge serup based on stats otherwise make all 3 random
