Hi all,
I am planning on working my way thru old console catalogs and I need some help with finding the gems I haven’t beaten.
I’m starting the year off with NES games. Give me those must play recommendations.
I am starting the first Zelda tonight. But need more games in the pipeline
Here are some games (I think are classics) that Ive beaten:

little samson is awesome. just don’t buy the OG cart, to expensive.
i own every one in top 100 (may not have played them all), but aside from mega man series, i enjoyed it the most. lolo is great and if you liked that style, fire and ice is great as well

Earthbound Beginnings, Contra, and Kid Icarus are in my top 3. honorable mention to Castlevania and Metroid, because I’ve never beaten them but they’re both very good and spawned amazing sequels.
I now see you mentioned Contra already, so I’ll suggest its sequel Super C, and the unofficial spinoff Contra Force.
I haven’t played the original version of Final Fantasy II, but the PSP/iOS remake was pretty great. if you like the Elder Scrolls’s leveling system, this is a good predecessor to that.
MC Kids, Rescue Rangers, Blaster Master
As someone who loves all of the games you mentioned, Crystalis is my favorite NES game of all time. It’s like the first Zelda, but supercharged. It’s also on the NSO if you have a switch.

I loved the Robin Hood game that was on the Kevin Costner movie. I never see it mentioned, but was a great rpg like game

That list is questionable. Double Dragon 3 is in no way better than 2, it’s very unforgiving and the combat isn’t as good in my opinion. Also the first Adventure Island is ridiculously hard and has not right being that high. Excitebike is awesome, but it’s not 14th no way. RC pro am is also way overrated on that list, the second game is much better than the first. Even the first TMNT game deserves to be higher than some stuff like Ice Climber imo.
Decent games that I think are worth giving a shot:
Double Dragon 2 – so much better than the first one on NES. Perfect the knee move and you’ll be godlike. Also put it on 2 players B mode and kill the other player for extra lives.
Galaxy 5000 – only if you like racing with weapons. It’s not on that list but it’s still better than some of the titles listed in my opinion.
River city Ransom – basically double Dragon but with light rpg elements, same developer. This is a must play NES game. If you like double Dragon, you will probably love this game
World Cup soccer – River city Ransom graphics but soccer with special kicks
Adventure Island 2 and/or 3 – solid platformers, don’t play the first one it’s just Sega’s Wonder Boy reskinned.
Guerilla War – one of the best coop top down shooters if not the best on the NES. I like it more than all the shooters, even contra. The fact that they put ikari and not this is troubling to me. It’s fast paced and the soundtrack is fire.
Blaster master which is listed 22. Little more unknown game I’d recommend is Uforia, good luck finding a physical copy, coz last I’ve seen, prices are up there. Great game though
