Beyond the Hype. I created this series as there is a lot of click bait and false impressions of pokemon and I want to give you a real in depth analysis of whether a pokemon is worth spending dust and candies on.
The new season of Timeless Travel has been announced with buffs to pokemon like talonflame, toxicroak, and azumarill and nerfs to steelix breaking swipe and medicham. Here is a full analysis of the new buffs, nerfs, and pokemon with new moves.
This week is master league and fantasy cup. Fantasy Cup is a 1500CP league with only steel, fairy, and dragon.

What a weird decision. Isn't the 3 cup metas usually based on RPS when it comes to the 3 typings, at least theoretically?
I don't have Lickitung, Cresselia, Registeel, Gligar, Swampert, Skarmory, Whiscash, Guzzlord, Serperior, Azumaril, Lucario, Medicham. Pretty much the full meta hasn't dropped for me yet 😀 I hope time and effort will fix it this year.
I am a newer player (account 1,5 years old) and I find that the very limited metas gives me an opportunity to practice and really learn my matchups and how to use my team. I enjoy these type of metas as a break from the chaos of more open metas with so much more to be aware of.

I just finished my Shadow Mawile that I really want to use, but I could also scrape a subpar turtonator together. Everyone has the same options aside from the turtle, but boy do I want to fjnd time to use Shadow Mawile since I dropped 300k dust to finish it.
I plan on using team 1 for the cup, although I am confused what to use for the lead ? I am siding with azu , with regi as a safe swap . Would you suggest otherwise ?
Looks like i can take a break this week. As a newer account, I'd have to invest into some very niche mons to play well in this and the ones I do have would make terrible teams.

Already at a 28% win rate and down 400 points after this week. lets see if I loose another 400 lol.
Happily I have an ok team for ML and am still working on the ML medal so I'll probably be playing there for this round. No tapu at all and the only turtanados I have are terrible IV's and I won't waste candy & dust for bad IV's for a cup (usually…). Looks like it'll be boring for the most part but maybe an excuse to power up a good flygon and excadrill that have been sitting in the "potential" bucket for a while. 🙂

Darn, I thought it was gonna be for UL again. I built my XL wiggly just to hard counter all the giratina origin that I saw last time around lol
I ran registeel + double water/fairy for open GL and had some success. Looking forward to trying it out in this cup.
Slurpuff with fairy wind and flamethrower seems to have pretty good matchups against top 20 fantasy cup pokemon
Exadrill with mud SPLAP was pretty annoying in last Fantasy cup

Dan, sorry if this a silly question, but when it comes to Registeel and Turtonator being difficult to farm candy’s would you advise against using them with only one move?

I like this cup so far lol but I normally do really well at the start but by the end I’m getting hard countered and by the time I adjust the cup is over. Anyway.. my winning team so far is built around Turtonator. It is soooo strong and it surprised me with its bulk even on attacks like rock throw or drill run

I like the way Galarian Weezing looks with both sludge and overheat. Being able to hit steels and fairy's for super-effective is nice, while resisting dragon and fighting as well.
I started off losing today, but as soon as I put shadow Mawile on my lead, I started winning lol
I played my sets before fantasy cup switched over but I’m gonna use galarian stunfisk, azumarill with play rough/hydro pump and I have a rank 1 shadow garchomp I’m gonna try out with them
My ELO has plummeted under 1400 in the first day.

What about double fire?
I’ve been having good luck between 2000 – 2500 with mud slap shadow ex/shadow flygon, turt (overheat and flash cannon), and registeel. Mud slap shadow ex outpaces a lot of the current meta and turt with flash cannon gives it a fighting chance vs azu. I haven’t run into many dragons besides haxorus,but games have been going well
Appreciate your content Dan. This cup really blows hard. It's 100% RPS in its set up. Way too limited. It's literally the same 8 pokemon. Then there's master league which a lot of people don't bother playing. Looks like a nice week to sit out of GBL.
lol they forgot Weezing at the start, now it’s #6 on the list near the top of the meta, switches up the entire top 10 teams
