    > “I feel like the mechanic of having the things you shoot stay on the field is very unique,” he added, joking that it would be “a great honour” if fans eventually give the genre a nickname akin to ‘Soulsborne’ or ‘Metroidvania

Splatlike, or maybe a Splatter. There you go.

  2. trippleJumpz

Foamstars is like if Nintendo made a game about Rabbits and Mario characters shooting paint at each other. Kinda weird they went with rabbits, squids would have made more sense /s

  3. KronxDragonhoof

Maybe try to be less blatant with what your clearly doing than. Also don’t use AI art in you game dumbass.

  4. menodude

You know what? I’m going to compare them even harder.

  5. BrainzTheGamez

I’ll do that when you stop using AI generated art in your games.

  6. Cutiesaurs

I understand I wish people stop say cassette beasts and palworld is better than Pokémon which it isn’t. Cassette Beasts is more like persona and palworld is more like ark.

  7. Outside_Dot_5942

Don’t make what’s basically a copy of Splatoon then and people won’t make comparisons

  8. MonochromeTyrant

They used AI in the game, they can’t ask me for anything. It’s a Splatoon knockoff that has AI in it and misses the entire point of Splatoon.

Everyone always forgets about Dablob! I had the originals on WII and it was spaltoon before splatoon! You could even do time attack 1v1 up to 4 players. so much fun on that with my siblings lol slinging around with motion control to ink all the hard to get buildings first.

  10. FunkinDonutzz

Yeah so about the Barbera Streisand Effect…

  11. Lol, their examples of how its different is they have heroes with different special attacks (sounds a lot like the loadouts in splatoon), and that the foam can be used to make paths for your team (you know, like in splatoon).

  12. KatnissBot

Yeah, Splatoon has things like character customization and player interest.

  13. oldskoofoo

Sounds like Square-Enix is mad they didn’t think of Splatoon first.

    Jealously is a stinky cologne

    edit: spelling

That just makes me want to compare Foamstars to Splatoon even more, something I can’t recall actually doing.

Edit: I mean maybe I thought “hey this looks like splatoon” at some point, but I forgot foamstars actually existed, so chances are I haven’t been comparing it to splatoon enough for square-enix to notice, and it’s bold of square enix to assume that I’ve spent my entire time knowing that foamstars exists comparing it to splatoon, but now I’m invested in the comparison because they think I am. And now they’ve got me channeling my best attempt at a James Veitch comment, because they don’t want ME to compare splatoon, to foamstars, even though they’re basically the same now.

EDIT2: and before Square Enix lawyers and marketing get all cranky, I am being facetious and not making a statement of fact.

  15. TheProphecyIsNigh

The picture in the thumbnail looks like Splatoon

I don’t see anything wrong with admitting that you were inspired by what Splatoon did, saw how no one else was attempting to expand on it, and decided to give it a try yourself. It’s okay to acknowledge that kind of stuff. He kinda does at times, but also tries to say “We’re not Splatoon! We’re different, we swear!” A lot of the platform fighters we have these days don’t shy away from the fact that they would not exist without Smash Bros. because it’s very blatant what they are, so why hide it?! It’s the start of a genre that will only expand if more people are willing to give it a try and do so with confidence.

All that said, I’m not even going to bother with this game since they got no problem admitting they used AI to make the in-universe album covers. So screw you Square.

  17. Digibutter64

And I’m sure GameMill want us to stop comparing *Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl* to *Super Smash Bros.*. It’s not happening.

  18. Gomez-16

isnt it just splatoon with micro transactions?

  19. Sure as hell doesn’t help the Splatoon comparison when you tell me to stop comparing it to Splatoon. Red button theory is now in effect and I 100% think Splatoon is a good comparison.

  20. gsjgsgkskhd

Of course a Splatoon knock-off game wants people to stop comparing it to Splatoon… bruh if you didn’t want people to talk about how your game is a Splatoon knock-off, then maybe don’t make a blatant knockoff of Splatoon lmao

  21. ahnariprellik

Then they shouldnt have made such a blatant rip off of it

  22. xNinja-Jordanx

It’s not at all like Splatoon. Splatoon’s open beta worked.

  23. TbaggingSince1990

Well then they shouldn’t make a Splatoon-looking ass game.

  24. Finaldragoon

    Splatoon doesn’t have AI-generated content.

  25. Bladescorpion

Eh, If they have a problem with it then they should release that fft remaster…

  26. OseiTheWarrior

I feel like people just read the headline without checking the article.

The title is kinda clickbait, in the sense that Kosuke Okatani isn’t angry at the comparison and laughs at the overrused comparisons. I think the game looks solid albeit a bit loud with everything on screen (which could be said about Splatoon too)

My only gripe is that it seems to be on PS Plus. I think both games can coexist without conflict

  27. Entire-Sprinkles-270

OK, now I will compare this game with splatoon 2

  28. MetaVaporeon

oh, so its like splatoon but with a bit of ninjala?

honestly, would it have killed them to make it 5v5 or 6v6 at least?

or give it a real twist, like 2 players being in a third team thats only meant to disrupt everyone?
