  1. Imo both BotW and TotK are fundamentally flawed in many ways, but still an absolute blast. And that is something we should all be very excited about because it means that these games have still only scratched the surface of what’s possible with this new formula. Despite how fun they are, they still have plenty of room left to improve.

Mindless and mediocre as the headline comes off as  needlessly negative right out of the gate.

You might not like TotK and that’s okay but I that headline immediately makes me think that you’re being inflammatory for views.

I personally think open world games in general have a problem where they can be a bit mindless, but I still wouldn’t make that my headline on. TotK review.

  3. PhoenixNightingale90

I’m not sure how you can call it mindless. It encourages you to think of your own solutions to various puzzles and obstacles.

  4. Regeditmyaxe

ToTK just feels lazy. It feels like it’s an expansion pack for BoTW not a full new game.

The puzzles are also very easy and I would barely consider them puzzles

  5. Simon_787

I pre-ordered this game and still haven’t played it lol.

I’ve downloaded ToTK but I haven’t started it yet. One of the things that worried me about it before it launched was how it didn’t appear to fix any of the issues I had with BotW. That being said, BotW is far from a perfect game, but damn if it doesn’t work. I completely restarted my game and I couldn’t believe, after hundreds of hours spent with the game, how new it felt even a second time.
I can’t say if ToTK is actually Mindless and Mediocre, because it’s built off the foundation of a mostly solid game. I can imagine it still has issues—for reasons that are a result of the kind of “freedom” Nintendo designs around—but this just seems like negativity for negativity’s sake.

    Honestly based take.

Totk building shit is so underutilized and not required in the game at all, I wonder why they wasted so much time on it.
Botw is the better of the two games, as it’s not bogged down by a marketing gimmick that you won’t need for anything besides 10 second tiktok videos

  8. Guardian_Bravo

“That thing everyone likes? I’m gonna bash it. Film at 11:00.”

  9. theonetruetb

As someone who didn’t enjoy TotK as much as most people, even I know this is rage bait

  10. YOURESTUCKHERE

Title says all you need to know about the content.

  11. Great video. Well thought out and I agree with the conclusions. I don’t think I’ve ever been as disappointed by a game as I was by TotK last year, and BotW was one of my favorite games ever.

  12. Regeditmyaxe

ToTK is great if you didn’t play BoTW. I just feel like I’ve seen everything already after playing BoTW and the exploration wasn’t as good because I had already seen everything. The sky islands are boring imo. The depth are one massive biome. It’s cool but it gets repetitive.

What a coincidence, I also like to record myself having awful opinions to subject the world to

  14. AncientDaedala

lol, I didn’t expect my video to be shared here. Of course, when a negative opinion is in the title, it’s bait. Somehow, I get the feeling if it was a strong, positive opinion in the title, people would be okay with it.

I am guessing most people in this comment section didn’t watch the video.

  15. Rome12245

Holy cow it’s almost an hour and a half, can I get a TLDR other than “mindless and mediocre”?

  16. Reddit I’m begging you stop showing me this zero upvote dogshit on my feed

  17. GomaN1717

    >1 hour and 22 minutes

Bro I’m sick of all of these gaming “essay” channels not understanding the value of brevity – a review should *not* be almost 90 fucking minutes, let alone over 10 lol.

  18. idiottech

Mindless and mediocre video. And no I didn’t watch it.

  19. StrictlyFT

    4-month-old video, totally organic post.

  20. freetotebag

Don’t engage the content creator it’s what they want

  21. ChoiceTemporary3205

I wouldn’t call hours of trying to figure out the puzzles mindless but go off I guess

  22. FlygonPR

Im a urban planner, so yeah, its kinda weird to see one of these channels suddenly do a contemporary video and get roasted for it. This reminds me of the former Geography Hub/”Knowledge” Husk going from geography to just doing whatever the heck he wants but mostly ranting about hot button pop culture things, to the point that the first name belongs to another channel now.

  23. Slight_Hat_9872

If you can’t shorten your ideas to 20 minutes or less I’m not watching lol

  24. pocket_arsenal

    *loud wet farts*

Nice posting history by the way, wonder what your goal is here in the Nintendo subreddit other than to stir shit.

  25. MaybeCanBeTHERE

This dude has such a nasally voice lol

  26. PrettyFlyForAFryGuy

Totk is overrated. Only Zelda I actually hate.

  27. AudioGoober88

Didn’t feel this ambivalent but I kinda agree more than disagree. Tears of the Kingdom wasn’t *that* good. Solid, fun game. Needed Miyamoto’s involvement to bring some life and joy into the experience. Too bad he was too busy making the Mario movie.
