    Maybe it’s just me and the fact that every year since the pandemic seems to have gone by in like two seconds, but it feels like they’ve been aggressively rushing the end of the 3DS support. Online servers and now repairs. Seems too soon.

    It could also be part of their ongoing strategy to put all their resources into the Switch. And now with a sequel console allegedly on the horizon, axing the prior stuff is a necessity to not keep their teams spread too thin

    Worth noting Nintendo repairs vary from region to region. They may be ending in Japan, but it seems repairs are still available (for now) in the US and Europe.

    Very glad I got my old 2DS repaired recently 😅

    I really should get around to buying a new battery for my 3DS. I want to keep it going for as long as possible. With CFW they’re hands-down the best handheld platform ever.

    Can I still send my New 3DS in to get repaired? It’s really old and scratched up and I think it needs a new battery.

    These ones in particular are a bitch to repair elsewhere. Not only am I told the ribbon cables int he system suck ass, so doing it yourself is risky, but a lot of places also don’t want to deal with it and don’t offer repairs through them.

    I went in to get my 3DS screen fixed and the place straight up said they don’t fix 3DSs. And going elsewhere, it was about the same price to get a “new” one from the local video game store anyway.

    I feel that the repair support should be a combination of how long since the device stopped being sold by the manufacturer, and how many units were sold in total during its official shelf life.

    The 3DS group of handheld consoles sold around 76M units and was discontinued in September 2020. The announcement doesn’t outright specify a date that repairs will end, it however states;

    >For the Nintendo 2DS console, the New Nintendo 3DS console, and the New Nintendo 3DS LL console, the repair service will be terminated as soon as the current parts inventory is exhausted due to the expiration of the retention period for repair parts stipulated in the repair service regulations for each product.

    Which means they are no longer guranteeing repairs from today, but may complete a requested repair for an unspecific period going forward.

    In Australia, Nintendo are obligated to provide warranty repair or refunds for a period that is considered by both parties to be a reasonable expected lifespan, as per the Australian Consumer Gurantee ([ACCC](https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/buying-products-and-services/consumer-rights-and-guarantees)).

    This obligation cannot be negated by any terms set by the seller, warranty stipulations in Australia are simply the company specifying their minimum commitment in addition to the consumers rights under legislation.

    IMO I would consider the reasonable lifespan for those who bought the 3DS before its discontinuation in late 2020 to be around 5 years. There is no specific time period layed out in Australian Consumer Law, it’s really up to both parties to argue.
