I got three of my never evers in Smash Bros Ultimate in the form of K Rool, Ridley, and Banjo Kazooie. Anything that came after that have just been bonus content for me. I think there is room for the series to expand, but Ultimate really is one of the grandest celebrations of video games ever created. So many milestones have been smashed through due to the hard work of the development team and associates. Sakurai is a genius with a great passion for games, if he thinks he’s done enough with Smash Bros then he deserves to walk away on this high note.

Good. I know odds are he will work on a new smash, but I really hate it when he has to go from smash to smash, I think Sakurai is at his strongest when he dosnt have to follow the set rules for smash. I just want to see what else he can create before he does officially retire.

Smash Ultimate will obviously be “revived” on the switch 2 (either via deluxe port or simple cross-compatibility), by introducing a new fighter pack or two, probably a couple years down the line, similar to MK8D.

This article is misleading. All Sakurai said is that the release of the Sora Amiibo marks the true end of his work on Super Smash Bros Ultimate. He’s not saying he’s walking away from the series or taking an extended leave.
From what we know, he is ending his YouTube series shortly and explicitly said on that series that he is still a game developer. Smash or not, he’s working on his next project soon if not already.
My guess would be Smash for the Switch 2 but we definitely don’t have concrete proof of anything.

don’t be misled. his work for specifically smash ultimate is coming to an end. this does not mean that he won’t have involvement in the next smash bros instalment on the next console…

He’s just referring to the final Amiibo for Ultimate coming out today. It has nothing to do with future Smash games.

Yeah the issue is I am not even sure how they can make this game better or improved if they do a sequel !? Roster is about a deep as you can get and don’t know how much better you can make the graphics on a 2d fighting fake

Well, he kinda stopped already, no ? I mean, he worked on like 10 spirits, amiibos, “tournaments” and I think that’s it. There wasn’t any fix, nerf or buff since a bit of time. To me, he already finished with Ultimate long time ago. Just too bad there isn’t a last update to fix some bugs and make some cracked things less cracked and bad things better. But hey, still one of Nintendo’s best games, am I right ? This guy just gave himself so much too. Too me he’s already working on something else. Maybe he’ll come back with some softer project. I can imagine a Melee remake, and it wouldn’t be as time and health consuming as his other projects, I think.
He’s eventually gonna come back, but let’s be happy he takes some break.
